That's Daisy in the bottom bunk. She sometimes comes for overnights with us when her mama Lori is out of town. Recently Lori married Greg and Daisy acquired a whole new family including a schnauzer brother named Curtis.
So Lori and Greg went to Destin this weekend to visit Lori's kids, kids-in-law, and granddaugher Lily. And Daisy come to stay with me and Sophie. Curtis is, I think, with Greg's daughter.
Now this visit makes me considerably more happy than it does Sophie. Being the diva dog that she is, Sophie has a hard time tolerating another dog in the house. She pouts and fusses and has been know to give Daisy a pop upside the head, for which she gets severely scolded.
But Daisy can pretty much hold her own. She knows how to get under that black dog's fur. For instance, Daisy knows that Sophie will not eat her food or drink her water if she knows another dog has had its snoot anywhere near her bowls. So the first thing Daisy does when she gets here is to run to Sophie's bowls in the kitchen and eat and drink from them. I try to remember to put the bowls on the cabinet before Daisy arrives (and I did remember this time), but too often I forget. And Sophie can always tell.
So all through Daisy's visits I have to keep Sophie's bowls on the cabinet and Daisy's bowls on the floor. Sophie comes and tells me when she's hungry or thirsty, and I stand and watch her eat and drink, then put her bowls up again. I have to watch, because if I don't, Sophie will insist that Daisy has been in her bowls, even if she hasn't.
Daisy is a fun doggie, and smart too. She can do a little dance for a treat, and she can roll over. But what I like most to watch her do is chase her tail. Now I've seen dogs chase their tails before, but not like Daisy. She slowly and stealthily sneaks up on her shaggy appendage, then pounces. So far, I haven't seen her catch it, but I'm still hoping.
The girls, Daisy and Sophie, and I wish you all a most pleasant weekend. We're going to work on a Halloween miniquilt.

Cute post, Susan. I love hearing stories about our furry friends. I'm always amazed to hear how smart and intuitive they are. The story about her food and water dishes is so precious. That Sophie is one smart chick.

Gotta love our pets, and our friend's pets, too.
My friend Pam has a cat named Patch. We tell time by his tummy, 8:30pm means dinner, and he sits by the fridge for you to get his can of chow out and serve it up. Now, never mind if you have to get a new can out and open it, because he will NOT eat if you don't go through the motion of opening the refrigerator and getting the can out!
Then there is our little diva dog Tori, who insists on burying her water dish!?! We cannot even put a rug on the floor near her bowl, she drags it over, and you have one wet rug and a thirsty dog. Sheesh!

But Sophie is still top dog. Physical hierarchy is important in pooch-land.

Cute, cute! A doggie sleepover with bunk beds!! Leave it to the alpha pooch to figure how to still be top dog!! Our Daisy was the sweetest Basset on the planet.
Happy sewing! I'm putting borders on a 2nd LB Christmas panel - different fabrics and am listening to The Best of Peter, Paul, and Mary (sniffle), but yesterday it was Hootie and the Blowfish, so I'm not totally out of touch!
Hugs!

What would we do without our little furry folks. LOL. Both Daisy and Sophie have style and attitude and I love it. Anyone that says dogs don't have personalitys and emotions has never owned one or at least never loved one. That chasing the tail story had me laughing so hard tears were rolling because we had a dog that did that, only he occasionally caught his tail then he would stand there, curled up like a pretzel and look at you as if asking "well, what do I do with it now that I have it?". Great post Susan...Happy quilting and have a great weekend.

Good luck with the girls this weekend! Ozzie is home for the weekend with our Sophie, and so far so good. Last week they just about took my husband's thumb off when they got into a fight, but it's going better this week.

Hey Suz, I hope the girls are getting along. Daisy holds her own with Curtis, too...the OTHER black dog! ;-) We had beautiful weather today in Destin. This was welcomed greatly after driving through two hours of rain on the way here last night. Greg's a trooper, though, and kept on plugging along. I am loving my time with Miss Lily. They grow up so fast!!

I was out of town this weekend as was my husband (two different directions), so Oscar went to the kennel. I don't often leave him overnight and he looked so little on his big "room." We were so glad to see each other tonight! Don't our little friends give us a lot of joy!

What a cute little dog! I'm glad you and Sophie could have company, even if Sophie was a bit put out by it. I find that I often have to remind Churchill that he is our 'firstborn' and that we love him very much.
