Got a lot of sewing done yesterday. I almost finished a pinwheel baby quilt top. Would have finished if Sophie would have left me alone last night. But she kept demanding some snuggle time, so I gave up and gave in.
Today after church, instead of working on the same pinwheel quilt, I cut some pieces for the one I started at retreat, "October Garden."
My plan is to finish the baby pinwheel quilt tomorrow and then work on putting the Flutterby blocks together the rest of the week. But you know how my plans often turn out. I seem to get more done sometimes when I don't plan at all.
My church is holding its Fall Festival tonight, but I don't feel like going. A friend of mine lost her mother to pancreatic cancer yesterday, and I'm not feeling in a festive mood. Would rather stay home and watch scary movies, a thing I love to do as Halloween approaches.
Tonight I'm watching "The Shining," one of my very most favorite movies. I've always thought that, while Stanley Kubrick more or less murdered (or redrumed) Stephen King's book, he did such a great job creating that cold, isolated, agoraphobic/claustrophobic atmosphere, that I can forgive him.
The photos in the mosaic are from my Flickr Faves. Below are links for each photo credit.

Are you kidding me??? The Shining?? Uh huh! Nope, not me! I watched it once and that was enough! I love Stephen King (books) and I love Jack Nicholson (hope I spelled that right!), but...I'm a chicken about watching scary movies!
I do so love your pinwheels, though! And give that baby (Sophie) lots of hugs and snuggles! You both deserve them!

You are brave to watch scary movies by yourself. I don't care for them much myself. I like the silly goony part of Halloween better than the scary parts! Good job on the pinwheel project!

Love the pinwheels!!
The Shining??????????? NO WAY!! I got it as a book club book decades ago. I read it on one day, staying up until 3am with all the house lights on and wouldn't let DH go to bed, then I couldn't sleep. I like the silly parts of Halloween, too.
Hugs to you and Sophie.

I'm so happy that your staying so busy! The pinwheels are fantastic :) Such a lovely way to spend the day! I'm so sorry about your Friend's Mom. Now about those scary movies!!! OMG, I can't even listen to one, much less actually watch it (LOL).

What a great collection of pinwheels -- they feel so much more happy than scary movies!
Hope you are doing OK!

I love the way #5 is quilted -- just lovely! I agree about The Shining. We went to visit that hotel they used for many of the scenes, The Stanley, and I was suitably creeped out, even in daylight!

Susan, I adore the pinwheel quilts, there are so many options for these both for childrens quilts and beautiful scrappy quilts. My sis in law made a queen size pinwheel quilt out of Thimbleberry scraps. The blocks were (I think) 8 - 8 1/2 in. then she added a couple of borders and gave it as a wedding gift, it was a really lovely piece. Ah now to the shining!!! One of my all time favorite Stephen King books and movies. I was just wondering though if you had seen the miniseries remake that King did himself. He said he was never quite satisfied with the original, mainly because Jacks transition to the insane state of mind was too fast in the original. I watched them back to back last year (it was couch potatoe night, lol) and I really still prefer the original. But the remake isn't bad, just not as intense. Have you ever seen the movie "The Changling" with George C. Scott? WOW, talk about a seriously scary movie. A truly wonderful creep you right out of your socks movie. For me, it is the scariest movie I have EVER seen in my 60 years, and it doesn't use blood and guts...just good old creepy ghost story stuff.

While I did not watch The Shining, my husband and teenage daughters did...and I heard screams coming from the family room. :-)Love the pinwheels!

I'm so sorry another person lost the battle with pancreatic cancer. My heart feels sad, Susan! And your quilt is going to be amazing; even MORE SO because there are such pieces of love worked into it. Oh, I don't mean the actual stitching. I mean things like your stopping to give sweet Sophie cuddles. Those things add a beautiful feel to a piece even if the person holding it doesn't know WHY. Now - scary movies???? Oh, my goodness! I can't, don't, won't EVEN watch those. Eeeeeks!
