I told you yesterday that I'd give you a look at a visit we made yesterday on the way home. Our return trip from The Creek always takes us through Ozark, Alabama. This is good. And bad. It's good because we pass right by the gallery of our artist friend Jack Deloney and we can stop and visit with him when he's in (which he was). It's bad because Jack's gallery is located right beside one of my favorite quilt shops in the whole world, Front Porch Quilt Shoppe.
After we had visited with Jack for a bit (and Sophie was having a great time with Jack's Jack Russell terrier Sassy), I told the guys (and girldogs) I was going next door--just to look around, of course. Well, going into Front Porch and leaving hands empty would be comparable to standing over a pan of fresh baked brownies, inhaling the aroma, and not eating any. It can't be done. Not only does the owner Melanie Simpson carry some of the most tempting fabrics available, her shop is also arranged in such an appealing way that you can't resist grabbing up some of the goodies.
I purchased two jelly rolls (seen above). One is Moda's Chez Moi Swanky and the other is Mary Engelbreit. I have specific projects in mind for both of them--I do.
I also bought a stack of fat quarters of Bubble Gum Basics (at right) by Quilt Soup for Henry Glass. I have several small projects in mind for these. I'll show and tell later when I've made some.
I know I shouldn't have bought more fabric. But in these times of recession and crumbling stock markets, I figure I'm boosting the economy just a little. So it's not all fabric addiction. It's my very own personal stimulous package. And boy! Am I ever stimulated to get into my sewing room and start sewing.
Below are some photos that I took at Front Porch Quilt Shoppe. If you're ever travelling down US Hwy 231 through Ozark, Alabama (Southeast Alabama), stop in for a visit. Even if you don't sew or quilt, it's sure to be fun. There's a map on the website, if you would like more thorough directions.
Oh, and please stop at Jack Deloney's art gallery next door to Front Porch. Jack is one of the South's foremost water color artists. You'll be enchanted by his work. (Click on his name to see some of his work.)

I love your comparison to a pan of brownies! What a lovely quilt shop! You were'nt a bad girl at all because it looks to me like you restrained yourself pretty well with all that they have there. What fun!

I also purchased an array of Swanky and really want some Bubble Gum Basics, but decided to wait. Now you have given me a reason to go ahead and get it - I'm helping the economy! Whoo Hooo...off I go!

It certainly does look like a lovely little quilt shop. I can see why it would be impossible to leave without buying something. And if you have a purpose for what your buy - then it is never money wasted and you're right about needing to stimulate the economy.
I wonder if I will ever one day be driving down Highway 231 through Ozark Alabama. I bet it's worth a visit :))

Love that you did your part for the economy! Way to go, girlfriend!
Love Mary Engelbreit, too, and have enough of her calendars to wallpaper the laundry room or some room!
Yummy fabrics and wonderful shop!

Oooh, Susan! What a wonderful shop! How can anyone NOT buy anything with all those goodies displayed like that?! I love the store's mocha painted wall with the red border at the top. I want one like that--full of all those fabrics, too! :)
I just purchased a Chez Moi but not in Swanky; actually, I can't remember the exact name. I'm waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Right now I'm working on a Cotton Blossoms Daughter jelly roll using the Wallflower pattern by Camille Roskelley - it's looking good and has been fun..

Those are darling fabrics! They remind me that my granddaughters need some new quilts. I think they would be just the ticket. Thanks for the tour of Front Porch, that looks like a might fine quilt shoppe.
