New Guild Year Begins

Guild blackwhitered Yesterday was the first meeting of the new guild year for Birmingham Quilters Guild. It was a very good (and crowded) meeting. We're about to outgrow our meeting space, which is a good thing because it means more members--and more members mean more fun.

We had some great show-and-tell, but conditions in the room are so crowded that it's really difficult to get good photos. I'll show what I got though because there were some really wonderful quilts on the clotheslines.

Guild Flavin

Flavin Glover of Auburn, Alabama was our guest speaker. She was another impediment to good photography. I have about a dozen shots of her, but in every one she's doing something weird with her mouth--except this one, in which she appears to be saluting Becky.

Flavin talked about her personal quilting heritage. She told wonderful stories of the lives of her mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law, all of whom were quilters. Her wonderful slide show consisted of photos of them as well as their quilts. In addition, she brought along many of the actual quilts for us to see. She encouraged us all to record our own personal quilting heritage, if we have one. I do.

Sign-up for the Trick or Treat Halloween Swap is going great. So far, ten people have joined the swap. But it's not too late to add more. You have until September 15 to get your name on the list. Just click on the link in this paragraph and read what it's all about and how to join. Oh, and feel free to post the swap banner (top left on this page) on your blog if you like (and if you know how! It took me forever and ever to get it posted in my sidebar, and I couldn't tell you how I finally did it if my life depended on it.).

what lovely quilts. i know you have so much fun with all the ladies. quilting is such a rewarding work. i have several my mother made and i do treasure them...and, appreciate all the work that went into them. I think I may have told you before that I have made a few 9 patch quilts but never anything "fancy"...

Susan, I just love it when you share quilts with us. They are one of my favorite art expressions.
