Here are my first two pictures that will go on the inside of my "You Little Doll" book--my two babies. That's Cait on the left and Andy on the right. You can probably guess the era of these photos by the fact that they're black and white. I wonder if portrait studios still do black and white. Back then, in the 60s, it was the norm, just like cloth diapers and infant formula. Breast feeding was gauche. Only hippies and foreigners breast fed in the 60s.
Isn't it bittersweet how the babies and little kids in our lives stay with us for just a little while and then just aren't there anymore. Oh, I know, they're still around in the bodies of the adults they become. But physically, we only get to keep those little people for such a short time. I wish childhood lasted a little longer.
There's so much that's fun and joyful about little kids. Remember the vocabularies of childhood, how little kids have such funny words for things when they're learning to communicate. I remember Cait called a horse a heetsie, and the mailbox was the bootbox, and milk was bunk (or was that Jesse who said bunk?). Andy's words for fruit cocktail were fruit cottontail, and she'd get mad as heck if you tried to correct her. And they both called me Mommy. When did I become just Mom?
You who are raising little ones, an infant or a terrible two, or even a teenager (well, maybe not a teenager), enjoy every single second. I know you're tired now, but once those days are gone, they're gone, and you have only memories and photos to remind you. Babies are a lot like blossoms--so sweet and lovely for such a brief moment.

Susan, your babies were beautiful, and I'm sure they still are.
I know just what you mean about savoring every second. My baby is 32 years old now. When did that happen?

My baby turns 18 next week! How can that be?
I love b&w portraits. My mother used to take us to some department store when they featured "Pixie Pinups."
BTW, on my computer it looks like your son is on the left and your daughter is on the right.
And thanks for the nice comment about my dress. It's funny, I never thought I could wear yellow. But I just get so sick of purple, pink and red sometimes. I guess it depends on the shade, or I look deathly.

You know, you can always freeze the little tykes, then they won't get any older or bigger!!
I'm kidding folks!...I love the MC..Does Alabama require helmets to be worn? California does and it's just not the same to ride on them anymore. I miss taking a week to comb out all the "pigs" in my hair. Vann will love having you on the back hugging him tightly as you breeze along!!

How adorable!! And, I KNOW!!! Mine are growing like weeds and won't stop no matter how much we threaten them. Ingrates. Would you like a teenager?? I can have him there on the next plane, we've had quite a week with him. Sigh. I *know* we didn't act this way, my dad would have kicked our tails.

I love your posts. They're so sensitive and sensible ( I'm not sure if this two words communicate what I really mean). My son is 9 and it seems impossible to me because just yesterday he was a baby saying "atata" and sounds like that. Life runs so fast... housework, job..... and so little time to enjoy with him...
