Two-Color Quilts

Q_red_1

Nicole at Sister's Choice Quilts is hosting a two-color quilt challenge this summer. It's just getting underway, so if you'd like to take part, I'm sure she'd love to have you join us.

The above photo shows the beginnings of my challenge quilt. I machine embroidered the Sunbonnet Sue blocks using a borrowed Bernina Artista several years ago. In fact, I did two sets of blocks, on in red and the other in blue.

I'll probably have to buy more red fabrics (now isn't that a shame!). Those that you see seem to be the only appropriate oones I can find in my stash. I'm not sure what block pattern I'll use yet. I'll have to get my books and patterns out and see what inspires me.

If you'd like to keep up with everyone's progress, Nicole has a list of challenge participants on her sidebar. And I will be adding one to my sidebar as well.

For inspiration, here are a couple more two-color quilts from my collection. I didn't make either of them. They're both antique quilts that I bought from dealers.

This pattern is called Orange Peel.

And this one is called English Ivy, though I'm not sure why. It looks more like some kind of lily to me.

And here's Flicker Group for two-color quilts. Not all of their quilts stick strictly to the two-color guideline, but most of them do.

Susan, your embroidery is going to add an incredible element to your two color quilt! What a show stopper that is going to be. I love the two antique quilts in your collection too. I would love to make an Orange Peel block some day.

Loved the slide show of all the wonderful two-color quilts! It was like quilt heaven. My favorites were the Log Cabins.

Really like your quilts. Saw the challenge at Nicole's site, too. Wish I had more hours in the day!

Keep us updated on the quilt! And...don't you just hate it when you have to go fabric shopping?
(it's become my second hobby...I love to go and never come home empty handed!)

I'm off to browse through the other's photos, but had to pop in and say I can't wait to see what you make! I know it's going to be fabulous! I love those quilts you posted, especially the orange peel. It's really inspiring.

Wow that orange peel quilt is really striking. I can't believe it but I'm going to participate in Nicole's challenge. I'm the world's worst quilter but what the heck. I have the fabric and pattern already - all I needed was a little motivation.

Looking forward to being inspired by YOU!
