Blame It on the Moon

Moon_cat" There are nights when the wolves are silent and only the moon howls."
~George Carlin, Brain Droppings, 1997

My fibromyalgia has gone into severe flare again. After weeks of mostly feel-good days, with a few feel-poor days, I'm now experiencing a round of feel-like-s__t days. Lots of pain, sheer exhaustion, stiffness--it's that "I Feel Like I've Been Hit By a Truck" thing.

My sweet friend Jean asked if I had considered that maybe my flares (at least some of them) are coinciding with the full moon. And to tell the truth, I've never thought of that. I know that weather changes affect me negatively, but I'm not sure about the moon. I'm going to start today keeping a pain journal to see if I can pinpoint just exactly what causes the bad times. I don't know how that will help, but it can't hurt. (Or maybe it can; right now, everything hurts.)

Have any of you experienced the full moon affecting any chronic pain condition or any other health condition? I've done a Google, but can't find anything.
Dryer_hose
Molly was right about the trouble with the dryer--the vent was completely clogged with 12 years worth of lent. I was afraid we might discover that chipmunks or snakes or some kind of critters had been bedding down in it, but nope, just dust bunnies and fur balls--tons of them.

I told Vann last night at supper what Molly had told me might be the trouble. So first thing this morning, we got to work. Well mostly Vann got to work. I held things. After discovering the extent of the lent accumulation, Vann decided to just remove the old vent pipes and install new ones. So after a trip to Lowe's, that's just what he did. The dryer works like a new one now. Thanks, sweet Molly. You saved us a few hundred bucks there, kid. We owe you.

46601e7a003c306c85400cb8e1 After helping Vann (by holding things) remedy the dryer problem, and after fixing lunch, and doing a couple of loads of laundry (three, actually), and making 48 stuffed eggs for a church dinner tonight, and delivering said eggs to the church,  I'm going to go and lie down. As Miss Niecey on "Clean House" says, "I'm tired of all this mayhem and foolishness."

I love "Clean House"--especially when my house is in need of cleaning and straightening. I can watch that show and always find somebody whose house is much worse than mine. It gives me hope. Plus I just love Miss Niecey. Some people, I hear, think she's too much of a black stereotype. I don't see it. I just think she's pretty, smart, and, funny.

Excuse me now, while I go and take a big girl pill. Niecey sent me a bottle of them for my birthday.

I have always gotten a kick out of Miss Niecey too. She would probably be the kind of friend who would never skirt the issues--very direct and honest.
Sorry to hear about the pain. That is just miserable when something like that rears its head and interrupts life.

Hey Susan, can you show me what twelve years of lent looks like? Tee hee!

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling that great lately. The only thing I've ever heard about the moon & health issues: my Mom has Alzheimers but still able to live in an assisted living facility. The manager there told me that another lady there with A.D. tends to wander outside & do things very "out of sorts" when there is a full moon. I thought that was odd but maybe there is something to "the moon" thing! Feel better soon.

Hi Susan, first off I hope you get some relief from your discomfort. Secondly, as a nurse of 40 years now, I can attest to the full moon affecting all sorts of things....more babies born then and also more problems with people who have disabilities( lots more ER visits for trauma also)....so you are not being weird for contemplating that. When I was doing psych nursing, some of the patients were wild during full moon....has to do with magnetic energy fields of the earth...like the ebb/flow of the tides. Take good care.!

Sorry you aren't feeling well...I never thought about things hurting during a full moon...I am not into that kind of thing, really. It could be, tho....who am I to say! :)
Come over and read about my Kitchen Open House on Monday...send me a photo of your kitchen...or a pretty photo of one, or a friend's kitchen...so I can post it on Monday...
Hugs, bj

I am so sorry to hear you are feeling bad! It could be the moon. I know that when there is a full moon, I have a hard time sleeping. And the moon does affect menstral cycles...So who knows.

Glad your dryer fix was quick and easy...thank goodness for Molly's suggestion!

Did you do the deviled eggs the way I suggested? Just wondering if it worked for you..

Hope you are feeling better soon.
Hugs,
Penny

LOL, my brother's xwife used to call me "always right Molly", behind my back of course, she hated me(because I was always right). I should get a tee-shirt made huh? Good to know that I really was in the case of your dryer! Ours did that a few years ago so I had a hunch. Now we are dealing with baby rats coming in the garage, I'm afraid they'll nest in my vent hose, eeeeek!!!

Sorry to hear you are feeling like roadkill. What the heck are you doin' up deviled eggs for?? You should be reading with your feet up. I'm a believer in moon stuff and also in barometric pressure stuff(like my headaches in the low pressure before a storm and other people who have joint pains). My cycles have been a "new moon" thing for almost 2 years now, that has never happened before in my life so it might be just a fluke, but who knows.

Hope you get over your spell soon.

Molly

I love Niecey! Think she's one of the cutest females in show biz.

So sorry your pain is flaring up. The only chronic pain I've ever had was migraines, a long time ago. I never noticed if the moon had any influence--was too busy hurting to notice the moon. Maybe you need another long weekend of rest and not much activity.

I was a bartender for seven years and I can attest to all the weirdos coming out to eat dinner and drink and than acting pretty darn stupid when the moon was full. All the waitresses would brace for a strange couple of days too. So I think its not far fetched to link illness to it also, after all we link knee pain or arthritis to damp weather or weather changes.

I love Clean House too! (So what if she is a stereotype - there are worse ones...)

Bummer, Susan. I'm sorry that "it" is rearing its ugly head. I have a cousin that suffers with fibromyalgia. Hopefully, it will pass soon. I haven't read anything about the moon, but who knows. I know the weather has a big impact on my arthritis.

I sure would like one of your delicious deviled eggs just about now. You are the champion.

That was great news about your dryer. And, a good thing you caught it, too. I have read that can be a fire hazard.

Feel better soon.

OMG, I hope the moon is not bringing on our chronic pain. There are enough things on earth that contribute to pain so we don't need any help from outer space.

I love Niecey too! My husband thinks she is loud but I just tell him to go into another room. I will be interested to see if the full moon is in sync with your flares. I have a chronic condition as well but haven't tracked it to the moon cycles. Mostly weather cycles and stress cycles for me!

The full moon doesn't seem to affect my Lupus, but I never sleep well during a full moon. I wouldn't doubt that it could cause a flare. Take good care and rest, rest, rest!

I have fibromyalgia and yes the moon when it changes does effect my fibromyalgia- The full moon I hurt more and if it rains when the moon is changing I hurt worst. I have been paying attention to this for a year. Yes, It does have something to do with it but, I don't know what or why I hurt worse during these times. I hurt all the time but, I have noticed that something about the moon changing and rain together makes it even worse.

Hi! The moon exerts about as much pull on you as does a piece of furniture; but unlike furniture it affects the atmosphere and thus the weather, so it could affect you indirectly. It's important to keep records and not rely on your memory. As soon as you get a notion, you notice everything that fits and forget what doesn't. Nurses are often convinced that more babies are born during the full moon but hospital records show no effect.

Good luck -- are you topping up on all the usual suspects, such as zinc, magnesium, and calcium?
