Reorganization Rained Out

Heart_blocksI started sewing my "Hearts Dot Com" blocks last week (Sharon, you'll recognize the polka dot fabric). They're s'very easy--just straight stitch the hearts 1/4" from the edge, one on top of the other, without turning under seam allowance. So fun!

But then I got a wild hair to reorganize the sewing room. I guess it's some kind of spring-cleaning bug. A lot of my friends (bloggers and others) have been telling me that they've reorganized and straightened up recently, and how much more relaxing they find sewing now. So I decided I'd do the same.

There's this big old chest in my sewing room that I've wanted to get rid of for the longest time. I don't know why I ever put it in there in the first place. It's ugly, and it just takes up valuable space. I really don't need the drawer space.

So I asked Jesse on Thursday to grab one of his friends and come by here on Friday and move it out for me and take it to the Thrift Store uptown. He said he would.

So what happened yesterday? Rain! Storms! More Rain! More Storms! Wind! Lightening! And still more RAIN. Not good weather for moving furniture in the back of a pickup truck.

Still raining today, so there the ugly thing sits, all cleaned out and ready to move if the rain ever stops.

Mess_2 Mess_1

Actually now the only part of the sewing room that is suitable to work in is the part where I cleaned out the ugly old chest. You can see what a mess I've made cleaning out the chest and clearing the way for it to be moved.

And that's not all. I won't even show you a photo of my office. It looks like--well I don't know what it looks like, but it's bad, really bad. It's where I have all my paper crafting stuff, which I'm thinking quite seriously about getting rid of. I'm not really good at paper crafting (altered books, collage, etc.). I'm thinking I should stick with sewing, quilting, and maybe a little fabric art. And if I get out of paper crafting, I'll have more time for sewing and quilting, which is what I really like to do. So it's settled. Anybody want a truckload of decorative paper and ephemera?

But first I have to get this sewing room under control. So as much as we need the rain around here to alleviate the effects of last year's drought, I really wish it would stop for a couple of hours so Jesse could haul that ugly chest away.

I hope everyone is having a great Saturday. Vann has gone to a competition shoot down in south Alabama, so Sophie and I are girl-batchin' this weekend.

Hi...I am outside working today planting bulbs...should be inside doing what you are doing...cleaning up my crafting stuff. But, the sun is out and temps are on the rise! Wish we lived closer as my daughter, Laura, could sure use some of your decorative paper. She is a personal support assistant at a group home and does scrapbooking and crafts with her clients. She has a good success rate getting them ready to go on their own apartments. Keep up the good work organizing!

It's raining here, too. My husband is working today, and I have been trying to get some things finished in my scraproom. I'm working on a circle journal at the moment.

Hopefully the rain will stop long enough for them to take your chest.

Susan ~ I worked outside a lot on Saturday as we had a beautiful day. Speaking of hobbies, aren't there are so many to choose from? When I'm working with fabric, no scrapbooking gets done. When I'm working with paper and photos, no knitting gets done. And when I'm working in the yard, nothing gets done inside! Oh, the choices! I'd love to live right down the street from you and come help you organize and ....take some of that paper off your hands. And, of course, play with Sophie a bit. :)

My, that's quite a project you've got yourself into there, girls (you 'n Soph). You will be so much happier for it in the end, though. I am all cleared out and rearranged, and it's great.

I love those hearts they're beautiful! I just cleaned out my craft room a month ago, it's hard to let go of that stuff sometimes. You're room will be beautiful! I hope you find a good home for your stuff, I don't think you should get rid of all of it, you are talented and even though you might not want to use it all the time you might want to do some stuff down the line. Maybe keep a small box with stuff in case you want to make cards or ATCs.

Oh Susan, I think you are doing better than I am. Instead of getting rid of anything, I go out and buy more storage bins to keep stuff in. I move one pile and ten more piles fill up the space. Help!
PS: Cute hearts!
