Home Again, Home Again, Jiggity Jig

Cropped We got home a couple of hours ago. As you can see, Sophie is beside herself. It took Vann at least five minutes to get her to stop running around in circles so her could pick her up and love on her. Oh man! There's nothing like a big old sloppy happy dog kiss.

We're unpacked and Sophie and Vann are riding around the neighborhood on their 4-wheeler checking out things. We had a wonderful week. I think we both agree that it was the best beach trip yet. We loved the coolish temps and the lack of people on the beach. The sunsets were amazing too. And it was just nice for just the two of us to be together for a whole week. That never happens at home. One or the other of us is going here and there, doing whatever needs doing. We needed some together times. But it's good to be back home too.

I promise to get you up to date on all we did and saw and ate and read. I have so many treasures to show you, and starting tomorrow, I'll do just that. But now, I think I'll go get reacquainted with my big chair.

Mcguffey All right, I will show you one thing. I dropped a hint a few days ago about a great gift that my mother-in-law gave me. Here's the gift in the picture at right: A set of McGuffey's Readers, Books 1-6, 1907 editions. ( Correction added: The books are 1920 editions, not 1907.) (Click on picture for larger view.) I've always wanted a set of these books, and I didn't even know Miss Biddy had them. I believe there's another book, Book 7, that goes with the series. If so, Vann says Miss B probably has it somewhere around her house. If she doesn't, I'm going to look for it on E-bay.

The illustrations in the books are wonderful.

So tonight, I'm going to retire to my big chair and get lost in the world of McGuffey's Readers.

Sounds like a heavenly trip Susan! - to be on the beach without many people around is so nice - to experience the ocean in solitude. There is just something about the sea that calls us back to the essence of our being - know what I mean?

What wonderful books - they look like they are in such pristine shape, considering they are from 1907.

Aren't our little dogs the absolute best friends ever?! Their love is unconditional.

I adore your new treasure. I have always wanted those, too. How very special that she gifted you with those.

Welcome home! That is a great photo of Sophie and Vann. Those little schnauzers can wag their whole back end, can't they!
