The children's group at my church is heading up a Prayer Bear Ministry. They have asked members who sew to make these simple bears, which our pastor will take with him when he visits homes or hospitals with children. Isn't this a good idea?
This is the first one I've made, and I couldn't wait till I had a whole pile of them to show this one off. His name is Spot. I'm going to make a bunch more. They're really simple to make. I've decided that I will also make a bear for each Cuddle Quilt and baby quilt I give away too. I think I'll make a tag with a sweet prayer written on it to tie onto each bear I give.
If you're interested in making Prayer Bears for your church or to give to children you know, you can find the very easy pattern here.

This is the cutest bear, and I think your idea of adding one to each child's quilt is a really good idea. I will pass this link along to a couple of people that sew children's quilts.

Susan ~ love the idea and especially that you will put a prayer tag on each one. What a special memory this will make for each child who receives one!

How precious are these. I think EVERYONE needs a prayer bear. I know I will now make my g-daughters bears for next Christmas. What a fabulous idea. How wonderful to hold on tightly to a fabulous, little bear as you whisper your prayers up to Heaven. I can hardly wait to get started! Thanks so much for the pattern.
hugs, bj

Susan - thanks so much for including the pattern. This is a wonderful idea! Now I've got a project for all that fabric I've been hoarding for years, but never bothered to use! :) Thanks again.

Such a kind thing to do. I am sure the young recipients will cherish them for many years to come.

I am sooooooo happy that you had a simple pattern. After reading about how these prayer bears could minister to hurting people, I wanted to make some. But the web sight in the articlewas no longer there. So after checking out MANY sights I finally found yours. Thank you again. Now I have another project to work on. I already do prayer shaws for my church.
