A Very Merry UnBirthday

CakeI only realized this morning, looking at this photo, that I probably was supposed to have pressed the letter candles all the way down so that the picks didn't show. Oh well, the cake was good anyway.

Yesterday was not the birthday of my youngest child Angela (Andy to us).  Actually Thursday is her birthday, but as I plan to be gone on Thursday (quilting retreat), we decided to celebrate yesterday.

So I made homemade lasagna and her favorite cake (yellow with chocolate icing). Andy's boyfriend Steve came with her (see photo below) and we had a nice dinner, then watched the end of the Daytona race.Andy_steve It was really fun. It reminded me how much I used to love hosting family dinners and celebrations. I think we don't do that enough anymore. Everyone always thinks I don't feel like doing the work. And I don't. But I still want to.

Afterward the festivities last night, I cleaned up the kitchen and then flopped in my chair. I felt like H-E-Double- Toothpicks by that time. Vann said it was because I had cooked and served and cleaned up. But I fail to see why that little bit of work should make me feel so bad. I think it's probably just another flare, although coming so fast on the heels of the last one doesn't seem right either.

Anyway, I played hooky from quilt guild this morning. Just didn't feel up to the showering, hair washingRabbit_block and drying and styling, and making up of the face and all the stuff involved in getting there. I have so much to do before Thursday, and don't feel like I can get any of it done. But I am determined, absolutely determined, to not miss quilting retreat.

I've got one of my challenge blocks done--Hippity Hop Rabbit (or something like that).  He doesn't look like he's hippity hopping to me. He looks like he's just sitting there, or possibly getting ready to hop.

I think maybe I used fabrics that were too light. I don't know. The other blocks are, I believe, a turtle, a bird, and a fish. I'm going to try to get them done today. And maybe use brighter fabrics.

I just reread this post and it sounds so flat and gloomy. Sorry 'bout that. I think I'll sign off now and go try to find my smile. Y'all have a good day, ya hear.

P.S. Vann read from the newspaper this morning that Yoko Ono is 75 today.

You have my sympathy and understanding. It may the wild fluctuations of the barometric pressure that's behind your fibro flare-ups. Do you think there would be any comprehension if we told those who are suffering from the flu that those symptoms of painful muscles and feeling "done in" are very familiar to us?

I read your post with the full understanding of your frustration of a flare (I think I mentioned before that I have Lupus). I thought I would pass on this wonderful article as it applies to Fibromyalgia as well. Take Care, Gayle

The only thing better than being a lovely young woman with a low-number birthday is having a mother like YOU to make her favorite flavor birthday cake. I'm sorry you're having a tough time right now. Hope it passes soon.
