Ringing in the New Year With Friends

Gang_2 Football Last night we gathered with many of our neighbors at Gene and Maria's house to celebrate the coming of 2008. We watched Auburn beat Clemson in the Chic-Fil-A Bowl (Warrrrrrrrrrrr Eagle!), then we watched the ball drop in Times SquareBall_2,and then we watched Robbie Maddison break the world record for motorcycle jumping (twice). While waiting for Robbie to make his jump, we watched 47 Trojan condom commercials starring a bunch of pigs--perhaps the worst (and surely the most irritating) commercial I've ever seen.

Since we're on Central Standard Time, the new year didn't reach us until an hour after the ball dropped in New York. When our clocks struck midnight, Gene popped the cork on a bottle of champagne and we all toasted good friends.Guys

There was lots of good food on hand:
Paul's roast beef sand- wiches with home- made mustard, Mary Beth's meatballs, Gene's hot cheese sauce, Maria's pigs in blankets. Johnny brought three kinds of hot wings, and I did a vegetable tray with dip. There was other stuff too, but I don't remember it all.

Vann and I came home after the the toasting. Sophie wasn't invited to the party, and she was very glad to see us when we got home. The three of us stayed up until about 2:00 a.m. reading (well Sophie didn't read, but Vann and I did). We slept until almost 9:00 this morning.

Today for lunch, we had our traditional New Year's Day meal of blackeyed peas, slaw, pork roast, and parker house rolls.

This afternoon I read about 100 pages in the book I'm currently reading, True Evil by Greg Iles. It's a thriller/murder mystery. I just love scary books.

Vann_2 Tonight we're watching the Georgia and Hawaii play in the Sugar Bowl. Georgia is way ahead at halftime. (Go Dawgs!)

Tonight promises to be the coldest of the season. The mercury is supposed to drop to around 20 degrees.

I wish for all of you peace, health, and prosperity in 2008.

Toast

I am getting sick of the TV commercials too. They seem to play them back to back sometimes. Football is my chance to get some sewing done!
