I love angels. I have lots of them in my house--hanging here, sitting there. I even named my youngest child Angela. While I doubt that real angels look anything like the ones hanging around my house--or even like my youngest child, for that matter, there's something so comforting to me about the form we give them. Wonder who it was who decided what angels look like?
Anyway, I thought this time of year would be appropriate to show you some of my angels. The one above was a gift from that same youngest daughter named Angela. The little heart reads "Mother, you are a precious part of me." And you are of me, sweet Andy.
These angels live in the china cabinet right now. (All the angels tend to move around the house.) I bought them in a gift shop in Tennessee in 1993. Vann and I were on our way to Blackberry Farms to spend the weekend. Fast on our heals was The Blizzard of 1993 that whited out the whole eastern half of the U.S. I think of that beautiful wonderful snowed-in weekend everytime I look at the pink lovelies. I seem to remember knocking one of them over and breaking her; but I must have done a really good repair job, because I can't tell which one was repaired now.
My friend Marla gave me this pretty angel for Christmas a couple of years ago. She's one of my favorites (the angel and Marla). On the angel's skirt is printed my favorite Mother Teresa quote: "I know God will not give me anything I can't handle; I just wish he didn't trust me so much." I know exactly how Mother T. felt about that.
And here, in all her splendor is our angel with the rusty halo, our own Miss Sophie Belle Patterpaw. (No, Soph! I told you to spread your wings!) See the little squeaky shoe sticking out from under her at top? That's a Christmas gift from our neighbors Kim, Bonnie, and Chip. Christmas starts early around here for the angel dog. Heck, it's Christmas or Trick-or-Treat or something for that dog everyday.

I love angels as well. I believe they are all around us. I have an ornament just like the metal angel you have. That photo of Sophie is too funny!

Isn't she the happiest dog staying like this on the floor? Aren't they adorable when they fell asleep in this position.
Your angels are lovely, I also like angels very much.

What a gorgeous collection, I love the tall terra cotta ones especially.
There is a book I've been meaning to tell you about, perhaps you've already read it though. It is called Certain Poor Shepherds by Elizabeth Marshall Thomas. Its a tale of a herding dog and guard goat who go off following "the star" and find baby Jesus. I am in love with this story and read it every year. I used to have two copies of it but gave one to someone long ago, now I can't find mine but I know its around here somewhere because I read it last year. Anyway, there are dogs and angels in the story and I think you'd love it too.
