Sophie Update

Dosing_the_dog

Here's Vann, giving Sophie her meds. He has had to be very inventive. Sophie is one smart doggie, and she can often find the pill, swallow the goodie, and spit the pill out.

We returned to the vet clinic this morning for a blood test and more meds and because Sophie's tummy continued to bloat. It turned out that we were there most of the day. The blood test showed Soph's red cell count was holding close to what it was on Wednesday. But her blood proteins were down. So Dr. Rachel hooked her back up to an IV and gave her a med to boost the protein levels and Lasix to help with the boating. We had to leave her and come back and get her at 5:00 this afternoon. Dr. R also drew fluid off her tummy and sent it to a lab in Birmingham. In the morning, she'll call us to give us the results of that test and to let us know whether or not Dr. Wood wants to do another ultrasound.
All-in-all, Dr. R. seems really upbeat about Sophie's prognosis. She assured us several times that she didn't feel Sophie was in any imminent danger; she just wanted to make sure she kept on top of everything.
So we still need your good thoughts and prayers. We're not quite out of the woods yet.
Sophie does seem to be feeling a bit better every day. And this afternoon when we got her home, Vann took her for a ride on the 4-Wheeler. She REALLY liked that.
