The news was the best today. Dr. Rachel called us at mid-morning and said Sophie's red cell count was inching up at last. Today was the first time that the tests have shown an increase instead of a decrease in red blood cells. That's very good news. So the doctor let Soph come home this morning. We'll go back in the morning for another blood test, and if the red cells are still increasing, we can take a day off on Sunday.

What a joy it is to live in a small town! This morning, after dropping Soph off at the animal hospital, we went into the local McDonald's for some breakfast. Our favorite server, Vaughn, greeted us and wanted to know immediately how our dog was doing. We hadn't seen her since Sophie got sick. But even stranger, before we left, a man we had never met before, walked up to us and asked about Sophie and told us he was praying for her. Sometimes we complain that "news spreads fast in a small town." But many times, that's a good thiing.
Phillip is coming!Sophie is bound to feel even better in a little while. One of her favorite people, our son Phillip, is on his way from Stillwater, Oklahoma even as I type. He was originally supposed to come this weekend to turkey hunt with his dad. But after Sophie got sick, Vann had to call the hunting trip off and cancel Phillips visit. Phillip decided to come anyway, to see us and to see Sophie. They will probably just stay here, though, and not go to hunting camp. Depends on what Dr. Rachel's blood test shows in the morning.
