Change of Plans
I got bored with these.
And switched to this.
A while back I started a quilt to give to my BFF's daughter, Kris, who had been begging me for ages to make her a cat quilt. When I finally got around to it, I started with the blocks in the first photo. I was never crazy about those blocks, but I thought they were a good choice because I could make them quickly. But when I saw the pattern for the block in the second photo, I knew I had to switch.
I think they'll be fairly quick too, and it takes only 20 of them to make a good-size quilt. Actually it took the better part of two days to make the first block above. But turns out that was my fault. I sewed and picked seams and sewed some more, and I was about to dip into my vocabulary of cuss words to direct at the instructions writer when I discovered it was all my fault. I had cut one small piece just 1/4 inch too narrow, and that threw everything off. I had to recut not just that piece but several more to get things right.
So be careful with your cutting. Measure twice, as they say--or for me, a bunch of times. Save yourself some trouble. If interested in this pattern, just Google Purry Stars for lots of sources.
I'm making mine using different colors but all tone-on-tone fabrics. I haven't decided on sashing and border yet. I'll wait until the blocks are done for that.
I had a thought that I might could use the first cat blocks I made for a border. I have about 30 of them. But I don't know. I'll probably use them in a charity quilt or a quilt for somebody's baby. We'll see.

Love your Purry Star cats and your BFF's daughter will surely love the quilt made with them! It just proves it's always good to listen to your creative self and not to be afraid to start again.
Those off-cuts from the fresh start would make good beginnings for a little scrappy heart to layer with backing, batting, machine quilted together and a hanging loop to leave for someone to find. See "I Found a Quilted Heart" on-line.
Hugs!
