Memories

Sisters - 1 Sisters---from left: Joanne, Me, Ramey

Sister Ramey came up with this photo taken several years ago when Joanne was still with us. Vann was still with us too; I know because I remember one of the cousins saying he was cute. So it had to be pre-2009.

Two of our cousins were visiting from out of state, and they wanted to take a trip up to the land where my grandparents lived when we were all children. I think the family still owned the land at the time (we don't any more). I don't think we would have been trespassing. There's a photo somewhere  that includes the cousins, but I can't find it on the my computer and I'm not up to going through boxes and albums right now. I'm still not even recovered from two days of cooking and two days of eating.

I did some work on Ramey's Christmas present yesterday. I'm making 6-inch Friendship Star blocks for a border.

Since some time in early October (or maybe late September) I've been making my way though all the episodes of "The X-Files." I had forgotten that there are so many episodes, more than 200 in all 11 seasons. I'm almost through Season 8, and I'm beginning to see why the series was cancelled.

1) Agent Scully is pregnant. Details of how she got that way are a bit sketchy, but I expect it will become clear later. Either Mulder or an alien is responsible, I think. Writers had to write her pregnancy into the storyline since Gillian Anderson, the star who played Scully, was truly pregnant.

2) The storyline has become increasingly confusing, at least to me, since the Cigarette Smoking Man (well, I won't say. Somebody reading this might want to watch for the first time, so no spoilers.)

3) I know from having watched the series when it was airing on FOX that Scully and Mulder are seen less and less until the characters are more or less a back story. They should have given Doggett and Reyes their own series.

Thanksgiving dinner was quite a treat. Although it was sort of a last-minute thing, we managed to gather a table full: Jesse, Andy, Pat, and India (and me) enjoyed the feast then had a good gab session later. After Ramey and India left, Andy and I watched a movie.

Gotta go. I have to pick up a library book that's being held for me: Heaven's Keep by William Kent Krueger. It's the December selection for my book club. It's a murder mystery,, so I think I'll like it.

Oh, I hear you on the exhaustion from cooking and celebrating Thanksgiving! It's taken us days to recover, too, and am not sure we're there yet. I'm glad your Thanksgiving was delightful!

Great photo of you and your sisters, but I had to click on the link as that picture didn't show up. In fact, maybe it's my old computer, but none of the photos on your previous blog posts appear either. This photos were all in place a few days ago. Odd.

I never got into X Files and DH quit watching it when the plots became disjointed.

Wishing your joy and wonder in the weeks ahead!

Hugs!

Time Flies

Blessed&Thank
Would somebody like to tell me where this year went? The holidays are upon us and I'm not sure I've recovered yet from last year's holidays.

I have spent a little time in the sewing room since posting. I'm working on a wonderful Christmas gift for my sister, but I probably won't show it until after Christmas. Although she rarely, if ever, visits my blog, I don't want to take a chance of spoiling the surprise if she did drop in.

Church - 1
This has been a very busy week for me. On Saturday, daughter Andy came over and we had bowls of chili Mac while watching the Bama Kentucky game. Bama won and has clinched the SEC West spot in the playoffs. ROLL TIDE!

On Sunday, my church held its annual Thanksgiving luncheon after service. As usual, the food was delicious (turkey, dressing, and forty-'leven sides and desserts). That's the lunch group in the photo above. As you can see, we are a small congregation, but a lively one. Sister Ramey and I appear third and fourth from the right in the photo.

Strawcake
Tuesday was my book club's monthly meeting. (More great food!) We met, as we usually do, at our church, to discusss The Rose Code by Kate Quinn. Everyone in book club loved it--except me. I wasn't too very taken with it. (More in the Books Read sidebar at left.) Above is a photo of the yummy strawberry cake that was our dessert.

For the rest of the week, I've been trying to catch up on laundry. I don't know how Jesse and I can pile up so much laundry in so short a time. Jesse helps out with laundry, but still it's a job. The last load is in the dryer now. I only have to get it out, fold it, and put it away--the worst part of the job.

I hope everyone is looking forward to a happy and thankful Thanksgiving. I'll be cooking just for me, Jesse, and daughter Andy this year. Chicken and Dressing is a must. I'll add gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, and some kind of dessert. And maybe some kind of salad. Andy has said she will help with the cooking, but the dressing will be all my doing.

What a nice group of people attend your church! Glad to hear you're a lively group, too.

There will be only 3 of us for Thanksgiving, too, so this year instead of a whole turkey, it will be turkey breast cooked a new way from a You Tube method. The green beans, corn pudding, sweet potato casserole, and pumpkin pie are staples. DS2 will have a baked potato instead of sweet potatoes.

As for where the year went, ;long ago my Dad said that has he got older, years zoomed by (not in the internet group meeting sense)so I suppose we're both at the 'zoom' stage!

Hugs!

Plans

Block finish - 1
This might well be the last Blockhead block I make. I have so much other stuff that needs attention, especially finishing work on things that I plan to put in the quilt show in June. I'll probably take what Blockheads I've made and make a table runner from them. I need some table runners, and I surely don't need any more full-size quilts.

I love this star and agree you can use only so many bed quilts. Wall quilts and table runners for the holidays and seasons are quick and fun to use!

Enjoy the process!

Fun Friday

Jed etc. - 1

My handsome nephew Jed drove over from Atlanta today and treated sister Ramey and me to a great lunch at Red Robin. YUM! We had a great time catching up and hearing all about Jed's recent trip to Spain. He made it sound so good that I've been wondering if I could manage a move there. Probably not, but we did make him promise that the next time he goes he's taking us with him.

I also got another Blockhead block sewn, but I won't show it. Something went very wrong. Chopped off points, points not meeting, etc. I must have not been measuring something correctly. I'll either remake that one or leave it out completely.

I hope everyone had a great Halloween. I bought my candy, set it out beside the front door early in the afternoon, and then sat down to watch some "X-Files." Jesse came in and wanted to know if we had any treat or treaters. I turned from Mulder and Scully to discover that it was pitch dark outside and going on 9:00--and I had never got up and turned out the porch light. So anybody in the market for a bag of Reeses Cups? I've lost 19 pounds now, so that candy doesn't need to hang around.

How delightful to catch up with Jed and how nice he took you and Ramey to lunch! Red Robin ... YUM!

So sorry about the Blockheads bothers with that block. Might you substituting a different block for the annoying one?

We've not had Trick or Treaters since we moved to this house that's set so far back from the road so we buy no candy. Well done in losing those pounds!!

Hugs!

Your lunch with your sister and nephew sounds very enjoyable.

Perhaps Jesse could take the candy to work with him as a treat for his co-workers?
