Blockhead 4

Cropnewblock - 1
I had planned to make another kitty block yesterday as well as the Blockhead block. But I ran out of steam before I got to it.

I have to make a trip to the grocery store today. I don't have any treats for Halloween. So I probably won't get to the sewing room at all today. I usually buy my treats as very early. Then we end up eating most of them before Halloween and have to buy more. Jesse and I are both trying to lose a little weight, so I've left treat buying to the last minute to avoid temptation. Jesse has lost 40 pounds in the past two months. I've lost 10.  Oh well, at least I haven't gained 10.

Happy Halloween! We have rain this morning, but it should be mostly dry by time to trick or treat. In the 22 years we've been here, we've had to kids at all on Halloween. That's probably because all of the homes on this road are set back from the street.

I love your new block and all of its parts are so delightful to make!

Wishing us both more energy.

Hugs!

Block Head 2 and Kitty Cup 3

FlagBlock - 1
I'm out of order with the Moda Blockhead blocks because I started late. This block is actually the first one in the series--or maybe the second. Anyway it's the second one I've done--out of order.

Catcup - 1
This is my September Kitties in Tea Cups block. That makes three I've done: September, October, and November. I think I'll do December next. I have some wonderful Christmas fabrics.

I was busy in the sewing room yesterday making these blocks. I hope to spend a little time there today. No Bama football, so I have a free Autumn Saturday. Football resumes next Saturday when LSU visits Bama in Tuscaloosa.

Happy weekend to all.

So Now I'm a Blockhead

Startblock1 - 1It started with this.

Quite a while back, I purchased a fat quarter bundle of beautiful red-white-and-blue (primarily) prints. I had no plan for it at the time.  Then some time during the summer, my quilt guild announced a block-of-the-month program. I remembered the fat quarter bundle, pulled it out, and made the first block (above). Then put it away again.

I have been following the Moda Blockheads group this year (Blockheads 5) and wasn't particularly infatuated until the pattern that was posted October 4. That's it in the photo below.

Starblock2 - 1

It's a simple block, not complicated at all, but very striking, at least to me. So out came the fabric bundle and the guild block that I made. Since my chicken quilt is finished except for joining the three rows, I think I have room to add another project. So I'm official a Blockhead now.

My Helper

TacoTaco says no sewing--cat needs attention.

Handwork is virtually impossible in The House of the Cat. Here I am, trying to embroidery little chicken feet on the chicken quilt top, and up jumps Taco and plops his big butt right on top of the work. He refused to get down. But after a while he went to see what his sister was doing, and I was able to finish the chicken feet. When I get the three rows joined, I think I'll add some more squares around the perimeter.

I'm really really really enjoying this cool autumn weather. I haven't had the air conditioner on in about a week.

In addition to sewing and reading, I spent some time in front of the tube this weekend. On Saturday, daughter Andy came over and we had bit bowls of chili Mac and watched the Alabama Crimson Tide squeak by the Arkansas Razorbacks. It was Coach Saban's 200th win as Bama's coach. Then that evening, I watched a wonderful movie on Amazon Prime, "The Burial." It stars Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones, two of my favorites. If you get a chance to see it, don't pass it up.

I had to laugh at the challenges presented by sweet Taco who - no doubt - has better things in mind for you to do. Moving fingers are like magnets to cats.

Your cheerful and happy colored fabrics are a delight!

We've had lovely cooler weather, too, and if the humidity and pollen count would go down, all would be perfect.

Hugs!

Here At Last

Cat1crop - 1

Cat2crop - 1
I haven't been able to get into the composing page of my blog for about a week. But either Typepad finally got it fixed or it fixed itself. Anyway, I'm on now.

Above are the first two blocks for my Kitties in Tea Cups calendar quilt (October and November). I've also continued to work on the chicken quilt but have no new photos to show at this time. I still haven't decided whether I'll tackle that fourth row or leave it at three.

I had every intention of going to quilt guild meeting this morning--but I didn't make it. It has been so long since I've been to a meeting. I really need to get back. Just so hard for me to get going that early in the morning. The meetings are at 9:30 and the drive takes 30-40 minutes. I know I sound wimpy, but getting ready is such a hassle. Showering, dressing, doing hair and makeup. All that has become very hard. I didn't make it to church yesterday for that very reason.

I have a craving for some scrambled eggs, so I think I'll go and make some.

What darling kitty-in-a-cup blocks!

I hear you in not being able to get out and about in the mornings as a shower wipes me out. Bother and bummer!

Big hugs!

Hello October!

Chicken

So happy that October has finally come around again. If there were such a place as Octoberland where it is always bright shining Autumn, I think I would move there.

I worked a lot on my chicken quilt last week. I'm either 2/3 of the way finished or 1/2 finished, depending on whether I decide to add a fourth row or stop as three. If I do four, I have to make three more chicken blocks.

I got pretty bored with chickens around the end of the week and sewed a couple of little kitten-in-teacup blocks for a calendar quilt: 12 kittens, one for each month of the year. September and October are done. I haven't photographed them yet. Will do so soon and show here.

I had a great weekend (not counting the pain). On Saturday night, I watched Ole Miss beat LSU and Bama put down Mississippi State. Bama and Ole Miss are the only two football teams I really follow: Bama for obvious reasons, and Ole Miss because Lane Kiffin, their coach, is, after Nick Saban, my favorite coach. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that when Coach Saban ever decides to retired, Lane comes to Bama as head coach. He was with us for several years as offensive coordinator. (Enough about football, Taco says.)

The other thing that took place over the weekend was church yesterday. It was a great service, celebrating World Communion Sunday, then snacks later (more like a meal) in the fellowship hall. I made my breakfast casserole, which I haven't made for years. I think it was a success. I got lot of compliments and questions, and there was only a wee bit left in the dish to take home. I had that for breakfast this morning.

Happy Autumn, everyone. Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit--a day late..

Love your chicken quilt and look forward to seeing what you choose to do to grow it in one or both directions.

I look forward to seeing your kittens in cups, too.

Well done in your sewing accomplishments! May I follow your good example.

Hugs!
