Loretta Lynn, Mommy Clary Webster, and Sister Crystal Gayle
As. you might already know, Loretta Lynn passed away this week. My heart took a hit when I read the news. Loretta is on the list of women I admire most. The world will miss her. Coincidentally, I had just watched "Coalminer's Daughter" for about the 25th time the night before she died.
I have long thought of Loretta as my cousin, though I have no evidence, except her mommy's name, that the connection is there. Clara (Clary) Webb (nee Ramey) was born in the same area of the country that my Ramey clan came from--the eastern Kentucky/West Virginia area. Of course it was many years ago that my ancestor migrated from that area down to north central Alabama, more than 100 years. But I feel there has to be a kinship of some sort there.
The other connection I have with Loretta is that when I worked for Progressive Farmer magazine back in the 80s, the editorial staff held our annual meeting in Nashville. As a side trip, we travelled to nearby Hurricane Mills to visit Loretta and Doolittle Lynn's ranch. Loretta was on tour, we were sorry to learn. So we didn't get to meet her. Doo was there, though. And he took me for a ride around the ranch in the Jeep that Tommy Lee Jones (as Doo) drove in the movie. I'll never forget that experience. I wish I had a photo, but for some reason nobody thought to take one.

Loretta Lynn's death was sad news, indeed. I never felt the kinship to her that did or had the amazing experience of meeting Doo and riding in that memorable jeep.
Those older folks we've admired all of our lives are now leaving us all too soon. In many cases we are left with their wonderful books, movies, or music so we are not completely bereft.
Hugs!

Having never met you in person, I immediately saw a resemblance to your photo and Clary's image, above. Even if you are distantly related, you are related in your heart.
