With a broken heart I announce the passing of precious SKipper.

He experienced what was probably a stroke while under anesthesia to have dental work done. It left him in such a condition that there was no hope for recovery nor the kind of life my Skip deserved. I had to let him go. The pain is indescribable.

Thank you, my dear buddy, for being my friend and furbie for these past 11 years. So many treasured  memories are stored in my heart. I'll remember and love you for the rest of my life until I meet you and Sophie at the Rainbow Bridge.

Run free, sweet Skip.

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry for your loss. I seem to type that a lot these days. I remember when Skipper chose you. He had a good life with you.

My sincere sympathy at Skipper's departure for the Rainbow Bridge after those many years of good life with you and the family. Your good memories with him will warm your heart forever. The sadness in life is that our beloved pets don't last as long as we do.

I'm so sorry for your loss of Skipper. It's incredibly difficult to let them go. But, I'm pretty sure he's digging holes all over the place with my beloved Zu! Imagine the holes those two can produce together!

Susan, I am so, so very sorry for your loss. I completely understand. I lost my beloved Lilly peke two years ago this month. I have enjoyed seeing and hearing about Skipper (and Sophie) on your blog. My heart breaks for you. May your wonderful memories bring you some comfort. Many hugs to you.

Sometimes we hear of a dear friend who has passed away and we feel shock and dismay. It is hard to believe that a creature so full of life is gone.

Even though I never met your Skipper, I feel like I knew him through your photos and blog posts. I know the pain of losing a pet and it is no small pain. My deepest sympathy to you dear Southern Lady. Sandra Hutchins

Have just read about Skipper and I’m so sorry. It hurts so much to lose a fur baby. Didn’t he “choose” you? He was a found fur baby? He had a wonderful life with you for his mom. You both were very blessed.

Oh Susan I'm so sorry to hear this sad news about Skipper. He is the third dog I've seen recently dying after having dental work done. I can't help but wonder what's going on!! I lost my little Gracie a year ago from kidney failure and I still grieve for her. They are such wonderful friends.

To celebrate getting the border sewn on to my millefiori quilt, I decided to read a book--all the way through without stopping to sew anything. And I picked just the right one: Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano. If I had wanted to put it aside to sew, I don’t think I could have. This is the best book I’ve read for at least a year. It’s one of those stories that almost reads itself. You don’t feel like you reading but just enjoying an enthralling story. The pages fly by, and you’ve finished the book way before you’re ready to leave those wonderful but broken characters. The main character, Eddie (Edward) Adler, at the age of 12, survives an airliner crash. The crash claims 191 lives, including his parents and older brother. For the next six years, Edward struggles to carve out a place for himself in a world without his family. The story is heartbreaking and at the same time uplifting.  If you’re looking for a good book to read to usher in Autumn, I recommend this one highly...

Catching Up

This is my new granddog Ozzy. Daughter Andy recently adopted him. He initially showed up at Jesse's girlfriend's house, and after trying unsuccessfully to find his owner, she made him at home. But having one dog, two children, three cats, and a full-time job already, Ozzy (his name was Chip at the time) became too much for her. So Andy took him in. At first she was sure she had made a mistake. Not having ever owned a dog that she was responsible for (we had dogs from time to time when she was a child), she was sure she had bitten off more than she could chew. But things are settled down, and Andy and Ozzy have bonded. They visit me frequently, usually on Saturday to watch the Bama game--or in the case of last Saturday, to watch movies as there was no Bama game. Ozzie is a very good dog and appears to be well cared for. He had not been snipped, but he has been now. And the vet gave him a clean bill of health.
