Chicken Salad

Chicks - 1 (1)

Chicks - 1

I held off as long as I could stand it and finally had to order the templates for Lori Holt's "Chicken Salad" quilt The photos above show my progress - I'm not using Lori's fabrics that come along with the full kit - I already had a fat quarter pack of fabrics that look a lot like Lori's and decided I'd use those

I hand appliqued the first one - Lori used faced applique (sew the pieces onto interfacing  and turn them so that no edges have to be turned while appliqueing - While that technique makes for very clean edges I found that hand stitching through all those layers was hard on hands that suffer with both arthritis and carpal tunnel - So I will try machine stitching the second one (the one that is pinned down)

Below is a photo of the entire quilt which might or might not be how mine turns out - The one I'm making could very well end up as a smaller piece

If you're interested in sewing this quilt you can find ordering info as well as info about the quilt along on Lori's site

Totally cute and you're so right to not only use your own fabrics to make this quilt unique but also to adapt the construction methods to you comfort. Applause!

I look forward to following your progress.

What a Year This Week Has Been

C88d486d56606bbb44d3e3e6b3528235

I  continue to be amazed and nonplussed at the disorder and confusion that everyday life in this world has become - No matter what I try to do - from getting a pizza delivered to paying the light bill to making an appointment with my doctor -- It's like a tv sitcom -- Things that used to take minutes now go on for hours - days - sometimes weeks

On  monday I called my doctor's office for an appointment for my annual checkup - I was told that Dr Gewin was no longer listed as my primary care doctor on my insurance _ So I called the insurance and was told that indeed Dr G was not listed as primary but a doctor I had never heard of who's located about 30 miles from   me - i told the insurance person to please change it back to Dr G  - She said Dr G no longer accepts my insurance - I called Dr G's office back and talked a male-type person and told him what the insurance person had said - He agreed that was right - that my policy isn't accepted by Dr G

I won't continue with the grueling details of this fiasco - Suffice to say that after I went through a couple of days finding a new doctor to list as primary people started calling and emailing with assurance that I was covered to see Dr G - But when I would call his office to verify that I'd be told that no the doc doesn't take my policy - By this morning I was so confused my brain was spinning

But thank goodness I believe the deal has been sorted - maybe! A woman from Dr G's office called and said she understood I have been being given conflicting info - She assured me that all is fine vis-a-vis my insurance and that Dr G is my primary care doc and that I have an appointment for monday afternoon - This was a person that I actually know from years of being treated by Dr G

So I'll be in his office at the appointed date and time and we'll see what happens -

Note: This computer is still acting up - several keys don't work - Other keys work sometimes - Thus the weird punctuation and stuff

Good grief! What an unnecessary kerfuffle that run around at Dr. G's office gave you. They need to have a staff meeting and get their heads on straight before giving patients the wrong information. I'm glad that the woman (long time employee) in the office called to straighten things out and that you now have an appt. Good for you for hanging in there to get to the bottom of things.

Forever Home in My Heart

SKipRe - 1

I brought Skipper home yesterday. I had another good cry (I hope that will be the last one) and held him to my heart and promised he'd never be forgotten

I'll have the picture of Skipper and Sophie framed and put it on the memory table with his paw print plaque and collar just as I have Sophie's

Those two furbies brought bundles of love and happiness to the Yellow House and its people

I'll love them forever

Sorry to hear about Skipper. I always thought that dog had "personality plus" and I loved to hear about his adventures.

My sympathy again as you hug and remember sweet little Skipper. Our beloved pets leave paw prints in our hearts and love on in memory and in family stories forever.

I love the Log Cabin quilt top you've made to donate and I like the way you joined the Leaf blocks I sent. Hope Taco approved of the Log Cabin quilt top!

Would the group in your area that's making these quilts for the Ukrainian refugees like to have the blue/yellow quilt top I'm making? I need someone else to machine quilt it when it's finished and I have no idea what group could finished and donate it. Thanks for letting me know.

Now Look What I Did

Blog - 1 (1)

I accidentally bumped the ironing board and knocked off the iron onto the carpet-  Because I had cataract surgery on Tuesday I am forbidden from bending or stooping Thus I couldn't retrieve the iron- So before Jesse to get to the sewing room  this had happened  I think I can fix it when I can again get down on the carpet--and this is nothing compared with what it did to the sole plate of the iron

This is my birthday but I'll talk about that later because it isn't over yet Andy is on her way with Birthday Cake and goodies

Cheers that your 2nd eye surgery is over and you're seeing more clearly! It will get better and better with time.

Bother about the keyboard 'm' and '.' being missing in action and hope it's an easy fix.

Big hugs as you carry on without little Skipper adding doggie joy to your days. Might you get another dog?

Yes, the situation in Ukraine is an inexcusable horror and Putin should pay in full. I'm putting borders on a blue/yellow UFO to send with backing to be finished elsewhere for a refugee from Ukraine.

Hugs!

What a sweet photo of your dear Sophie and Skipper. I hope you have this picture enlarged, matted, and framed for your home. I so understand your sorrow as we've bidden reluctant good-bye to many beloved cats and dogs.

Big hugs, my friend.

Skipper

46356569_10216172797007182_4274798382981054464_nSkipper Lou Blue
Circa 2009 ♥ March 2, 2022

With a broken heart I announce the passing of precious SKipper.

He experienced what was probably a stroke while under anesthesia to have dental work done. It left him in such a condition that there was no hope for recovery nor the kind of life my Skip deserved. I had to let him go. The pain is indescribable.

Thank you, my dear buddy, for being my friend and furbie for these past 11 years. So many treasured  memories are stored in my heart. I'll remember and love you for the rest of my life until I meet you and Sophie at the Rainbow Bridge.

Run free, sweet Skip.

My sincere sympathy at Skipper's departure for the Rainbow Bridge after those many years of good life with you and the family. Your good memories with him will warm your heart forever. The sadness in life is that our beloved pets don't last as long as we do.

Sometimes we hear of a dear friend who has passed away and we feel shock and dismay. It is hard to believe that a creature so full of life is gone.

Even though I never met your Skipper, I feel like I knew him through your photos and blog posts. I know the pain of losing a pet and it is no small pain. My deepest sympathy to you dear Southern Lady. Sandra Hutchins

Have just read about Skipper and I’m so sorry. It hurts so much to lose a fur baby. Didn’t he “choose” you? He was a found fur baby? He had a wonderful life with you for his mom. You both were very blessed.

Oh Susan I'm so sorry to hear this sad news about Skipper. He is the third dog I've seen recently dying after having dental work done. I can't help but wonder what's going on!! I lost my little Gracie a year ago from kidney failure and I still grieve for her. They are such wonderful friends.
