October Eve

Halloween - 1
I got a little bit (a very little bit) of Autumn decorating done this week. Mostly (well, totally) in the dining room. I still hope to hang an Autumn quilt in the foyer. I'm a little embarrassed to report that my Christmas tree quilt from Holidays 2020 is still hanging there. It matches my chicken planter, which I have on the antique sewing machine there,
so I've been hesitant to move it.

I'm planning to have some fun with the above jigsaw puzzle during my favorite month of the year. I love its spookiness.

Love your Halloween decor, books. and puzzle!! I've got Autumn quilts hanging but nothing out for Halloween yet.

Fret not about your Christmas quilt - I still have a spring table cloth on the dining table and need to get out my autumn one... maybe tomorrow.

Enjoy this marvelous season to the max as I will.

Hugs!

Looks like you are ready for Halloween. Looks great! I usually have general designs all year round, but I do have some halloween stuff to put out. Thanks for the reminder!

One For the Quilt History Book

3B - 1
All done and ready for the baby shower tomorrow. Actually, I'm not sure I'll be attending the baby shower. The amount of time I can spend on my feet without huge pain has shrunk. I can hardly make it from the couch to the kitchen without sitting down to ease the pain. I might just deliver the gift and come back home. We'll see tomorrow. Thank goodness my epidural is scheduled for Oct. 14. My fingers and toes are crossed for some real relief.

What an utterly charming 3 Bears quilt you've made and am so glad it's finished just before the baby shower! Applause, applause!!!

Hope you can take a pill and/or have someone drive you to the party so you can see the new mom's delight when she opens your on-of-a-kind on the planet gift.

Be good to you. Hugs!

I'm a bit late in posting this, but I wanted to tell you that this is one of the cutest baby quilts I've seen! I love the colors and the composition. A+ job!!! This will be a family heirloom, for sure. I hope you are feeling better.

A Busy Bee Day

Monday - 1 (1)

What a busy day I had yesterday! And it was all good. I felt good (relative to most days), and I got so much done.

First came Zoom quilt guild meeting. We were supposed to resume in-person meetings this month. But the Delta Variant put the quietus on that plan. Man plans; covid laughs.

During the meeting, a fun guild challenge was announced: The Brown Bag Scrap Challenge. Each participants receives a brown bag filled with random scraps to make any size quilt. At least a piece of every fabric in her bag must go into her quilt. One extra fabric is allowed. The rules say "neutral fabric," and I supposed that means some shade of white, tan, grey, etc. But I think red makes a fine neutral, so the red/white dotted fabric in the photo above is my neutral. We were to choose our extra fabric before we saw what was in the bag, and I did. And it happens that my scraps work very well with my "neutral." I also had an idea for a pattern before I looked at the scraps, but I'm not positive now that it will work. I'll have to do some more thinking. I'm planning a child's quilt to donate to our Cuddle Quilt program for children.

Since we were meeting via Zoom, we were asked to drive to Joann's in Hoover (about 20 miles from me) to pick up our brown scrap bag, which I gladly did. Of course, while I was there, naturally, I had to do a little shopping. That's where I got my neutral and the blue (also in the photo) to bind The Three Bears. And that's all I bought. I was good. Oh, except for a Snickers bar because I was slipping into a blood sugar drop.

And guess what? Lena did indeed agree to quilt the Three Bears quilt for me. So I had to drive all the way to the other side of town to deliver the top to her. She's going to quilt a simple design that won't take long, probably a windy vermicelli design. And when she's finished, I'm going to do a little hand quilting in the bears' heads. Then I'll bind and label it, and hopefully it will be all ready for the baby shower on the 25th. (Can you believe September is already half over. Didn't it just being?) I thought I wanted dark blue for the binding, but none of the dark blues at Joann's worked. They were all either too bright or too dark. I thought of yellow too, but decided I wanted something calmer.

And finally, Lena had the Little Girls quilt done, so I picked it up. (Photo below.) And I was able to pick up another brown bag there, a sweet gift from Lena (two pieces of fabric and a packet of quilting tools).

Monday - 1When it's bound and labeled, I'll post a photo of the entire quilt.

I stopped by Arby's on the way home and picked up some yummies for dinner so I wouldn't need to cook. And I can report that their new Prime Rib Cheese Steak is some kinda good. Recommend highly.

My plan was to get into the sewing room today after my household tasks were done. But just a bit ago I remembered that this is book club day (also a Zoom meeting). So I'm not going to have time to get very much done sewing-wise. Maybe I'll just read until book-club time.

I'm still feeling pretty good, by the way. Moving around still hurts pretty much, but sitting is ok. And the crushing fatigue that I've been feeling seems to have abated somewhat. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

What a great post and what good news that you're feeling better and tolerated driving hither and thither to get brown bags and deliver the 3 Bears to Lena! Great idea to stop at Arby's too.

Doesn't the Little Girl quilt look delightful?! Applause for Lena's quilting!

Love the fabrics in the bag you were given and the tools, too, and love the idea for a donation quilt from the brown bag bits! Have fun!

Hugs!

Itchy and Sleepy

August name - 1

I finished the name panel for August's quilt back this morning. In just a little bit, Skipper and I will be on our way to see his vet, Dr. Quick. He has the itchies again. We hardly got any sleep last night. I'm going to tell her to either fix him or keep him. I have to get some sleep.

Well done on making the August letters!

Sorry Skipper has been so itchy that neither of you slept well last night. Hope the vet has an anti-itch med or spray for Skipper.

Have a nice nap!

Hugs!

Ups and Downs

August - 1

I got the "A" block stitched for the back of Baby August's quilt. Scheduled MRI for next Thursday. And land line phone back working after a week of no service. Thank goodness for my cell phone.

It seems everything takes so long nowadays. Almost a week after my doctor visit to get my MRI scheduled. Then another week before the MRI actually happens. At this rate, maybe I'll be getting the implant done before Christmas--and maybe not.

Fall is definitely in the air around here. I've enjoyed having my coffee on the back porch each morning with the furbies exploring the back yard. And at dusk, I go back out and sit a while and watch the lightning bugs flicker.

I doubt that I'll get any fall/Halloween decorating done this year. It just wouldn't be worth the pain, since in these days of pandemic nobody sees my interior except me and Jesse and occasionally Andy. Christmas decorating is also an iffy proposition. When the virus was waning for a while, I had big plans for family holiday gatherings. But the Delta variant put a monkey wrench in those plans.

I'm going to try to get a couple more letters stitched today. Thank you all for your comments on quilting the bear quilt. I'm still not sure if I'm going to tackle the quilting. I might beg a rush job from Lena.

Love the A and hope, if you don't feel like machine quilting the Bear quilt yourself, that Lena will see you blog and call to offer quilting it for you and at top speed, too.

Hope you got my email!

FIrst Fall Saturday

Donedinos - 1

I got the borders added to the dino quilt ("One Million Years B.C.") yesterday while the Merry Maid was cleaning my house. I also got binding sewn onto the front of a cuddle quilt (children's charity quilt) and a bit of straightening in my sewing room.

I haven't found the right backing for the Three Bears quilt yet. But I have to hurry. My cousin's baby shower is September 15. I'm seriously considering hand quilting it. I suck at machine quilting, and I'm not sure Lena would have time to get it ready by my deadline date.

I visited a new old doctor on Thursday, and he had some interesting suggestions for me. It turns out, he had treated me back in 2013--the first time I had an injection in my lower back. I made an appointment with him this time at the suggestion of some friends who use his services. I had completely forgot about seeing him before until his assistant reminded me.

He has suggested a procedure/surgery called a Superion implant. It's a very small device placed in the spine of stenosis sufferers to relieve pinched nerves. I'm waiting now for a call to schedule a new MRI, after my insurance approves. I'm a little hopeful for this new treatment.

This afternoon, Jesse and I will be stationed in front of our respective TVs watching the first Crimson Tide football game of the season: Alabama vs. Miami. I love fall. ( I consider Sept. 1st the first day of fall. No need to waste three whole weeks.) The little yellow butterflies are flitting, a few leaves are fluttering down, and it was cool enough on my back porch this morning to have my coffee out there while the furbies frolicked. Well, they didn't really so much frolic as they just watched the butterflies and leaves. But still they enjoyed it. And so did I.

Love your dino quilt and suggest you call Lena and ask about the 3 Bears quilt. Methinks hand quilting would take much too long to do. Do you have a Bernina sewing machine? If so, butting #4 and adjusting your stitch length gives a cheerful all=purpose wavy stitch I've used often and a quilter blogger uses it on even large quilts.
Hope the interesting implant will be approved by insurance and will relieve your pain.
Happy September and Happy Autumn!

Higs!

I would suggest machine quilting the quilt on the bears and hand quilting the bears. Does that make sense? Using a walking foot on the straight lines of the quilt would not be difficult. Good luck.
