And Then There Were None

Last - 1The very last rosette is done.

Last - 1 (1)Birdies, feathers, and leaves

Today I plan to clean off my table of all the fabric I have piled up there. It looks like the fabric version of Tony Montana’s desk of white powder in the movie “Scarface.”  I think I have half my stash on that table. I need it cleaned off to lay out the rosettes and start stitching them together.

After some thinking, I believe it won’t be necessary to make those three or four filler units. I think they’re necessary only if you’re going to trim and square up the top. I’m not trimming. I’m going to appliqué the edges onto a border. I don’t want to lose even one bit of all that work. If I find for some reason that I do need them as I put my rosettes together, I’ll make them then.

How exciting to have ALL of the rosettes finished and ready to sew together. APPLAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love these little birds, feathers, and leaves and I know they're glad to have waited their turn to be included in this marvelous quilt you're making.

Enjoy putting the donor fabrics back where they came from so you have room to sew the rosettes to one another. Hope you enjoy this part of the process, too.

Happy dancing for you!

Hugs!

Happy Birthday, Pitter

She was born Patricia Ann Ramey in a tiny clinic in Leeds, Alabama. Our daddy called her Pitter. Everyone else called her Patsy (which she always hated). In high school, her friends all called her Ramey, and she has gone with that name her whole life. She is now novelist, artist, mother, grandmother, and my baby sister Ramey Channell.

Sisters - 1Three sisters--Joanne (we miss her) holds infant Ramey in July of 19--.

Fam - 1With our daddy. Ramey was about two; I was five or six.

I Can See the Finish Line from Here

Tuesday - 1

Tuesday - 1 (1)

Tuesday - 1 (2)

Tuesday - 1 (3)

I finished these two rosettes yesterday. This morning, I cut out two more. After I’ve sewn these two, I’ll have one more rosette and six small setting units to go. Then I can start the task of putting it all together. It remains to be seen how complicated that task will be. It looks pretty intimidating, but we’ll see.

Did this come as a kit, or do you have all these cute fabrics in your stash? I can understand how it is hard on your wrists doing all the hand work, and I expect the cutting was a major project as well. Can't wait to see how it goes together.

Too cute! I applaud your progress, your wonderful fabric stash, and your bravery for embarking on this daunting quilt!!

Have you laid the blocks together yet to test how the many glorious colors will work together?

Big hugs!

Three More

It has been a productive weekend. I got three more rosettes completed. I have another cut out and almost ready to stitch. After it, I’ll have nine more rosettes and six filler pieces to make, then I’ll be ready to start putting it together. I’ve set a deadline of July 31 to have all the rosettes done. That will give me the month of August to put the top together and meet my final deadline. I’m getting excited.

Rosettes to Date

Since I have been working on my millefiori quilt, my quilters bee has been able to meet only by way of Zoom. Bee Sister Sally has asked that I display all my rosettes some way that I can show them all at our next Zoom meeting, in August. I really don’t have empty wall space to do that, except on my sewing room design wall. And you know the condition of my sewing room right now. So I’ve decided to do this blog post with all my rosettes to date, then send a link to all my bee sisters. So here goes.

6a00d8341cbb0053ef0263e862a700200d-500wiI made the four large rosettes first. I started them, I believe, in February.

Awesome Susan! That is a lot of work there. Hard to pick a favorite but maybe the teapots.

Susan, They are amazing! I love the way you’ve used strips and fussy cutting to make additional designs in the center stars and outer diamonds, hexigons, etc! What a treasure!

Rosette Progress

See, I have been working.

I’ve decided what I’m going to tackle after I finished this monster--whenever that might be. You would not believe my sewing room. It is a total wreck. Total. Fabric everywhere. I just can’t work without making a mess--a big mess. So as soon as this quilt is done, I’m going to organize, rearrange, and clean that room.  I’ll show before, during, and after photos here on the blog when I begin.

But for now, I still have 16 more rosettes and some small filler units to create--and then put the whole thing together. I’m a little nervous about the putting-together part. I don’t plan to trim the rosettes and square up the edges, which is one suggestion for finishing. I’ve worked to hard on this things to whack of any part of them. I want to appliqué my edges to a border. I’ve never done anything like that before, so if anyone has any suggestions about how to do it, I welcome them.

Oh FYI, I have finally updated my reading list in the left sidebar. I know some of you check that. I haven’t been reading as much as I normally do because of the millefiori quilt work. But there are a few new ones on the list. Right now I’m reading The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. I’ve only just started it (last night), but it promises to be a good one.

I’ve got Cheesy Chicken Spaghetti in the oven and have to go see about it. So see you later, folks.

What glorious rosettes you've created and, again, I love the designs you've fussy cut for each of them!

Your idea to applique the finished quilt center to borders seems to me to be a good idea as that will let you preserve those star points and uneven edges. I've never done that, so have no suggestions other than to check for tutorials on you-tube. The Fat Quarter shop and Missouri Star Quilts are two shops that offer many video tutorials.

Hope it's cooler there than it is here. We're sweltering.

Hugs!

I just started a small EPP project of my own and need some advice on thread. What do you use? You inspired me to make one of my own, but I am not sure if it will ever get finished.
