My sister Joanne photographed some of Mama's quilts and posted them to her Facebook page. They looked so pretty on her bed that I thought I would share them here. It was from Mama that I got my love of quilts and quilting. Mama and I used to quilt together back in my poverty-stricken days. She helped me make several quilts to pay a bill for dental work I desperately needed--and my dentist desperately needed quilts for his wife who loved quilts but didn't have any.
That was many years ago. Mama passed away in 2005 at the age of 90. We miss her every day and are blessed to have her quilts (and other needlework) to comfort us.
Mama did all her piecing and quilting by hand. To her, the sewing machine was for making clothes. Quilts were to be made entirely by hand. I was in my 40s before I began machine piecing.

Those are beautiful Susan! So glad that you and your sister have the lovingly made items from your mom to keep her memory alive, especially this time of year!

Lovely quilts! A large part of the reason I quilt is to create something that will give my loved ones comfort and remind them of my love even if we aren't together, I'm so glad you have these tangible memories of your mom and the time you spent together.

In that last quilt, the pieces that look gray in the photo are really made of a tiny blue and white print. It's my younger son's favorite.

Don't you just love the feeling you get when you look at and touch your Mama's quilts? I know I get good vibrations when I see and touch the ones Mama made for me.
