I had a great Independence Day lunch with my two sisters, my niece India, and my nephew Jed. Jesse spent the day buggy riding, and my daughter Angela spent the day sleeping after a stressful week at work. All other family members were out of town.
We had an absolute feast for lunch, which Joanne hosted at her house. She made a baked ham and potato salad (to die for, both), Ramey made a mouthwatering corn casserole, and I made crockpot chicken, baked beans, and the pound cake you see above.
This has got to be the very best pound cake I have ever had--and I had lots of it. I made it using a recipe called Aunt Sue's Famous Pound Cake. To bake it, you don't preheat the oven. You put the cake in a cold oven, turn the oven to 300, and bake it for 80-90 minutes. The result is a dense buttery cake with a nice crunchy top. An old-fashioned treat. I'll never bake a pound cake any other way. You can find the recipe by clicking on the link.

I'm happy to hear you and your available family had such a good meal at Joanne's home for the 4th. Sounds scrumptious and I imagine there was a plate of yummy leftovers for Andy when she woke up.
Thank you for the link to Aunt Sue's Pound cake and the link to the homemade custard sauce. Not that the sauce is needed, but it sounds wonderful, too. Now I have to scour the cabinets and pantry to see if we have the ingredients. I know we have the eggs ...!
Hugs!

Oh, that pound cake looks perfect. I use my Aunt Louise's recipe. I'm gonna check out this one and see how it compares.

That pound cake was the star, in my opinion. I had a slice for breakfast next morning.

Hi Susan, thanks for the pound cake link. I always use my mom's pound cake recipe...it almost sounds the same with the exception of using heavy cream instead of plain milk. I'll definitely try it this way in the future. Nothing like adding extra WW points to my dessert that i shouldn't have anyway! :)
