Aloha and Aloha

Aloha!

Yesterday was the last meeting of our guild year. We take August off and start back in September. The highlight of the July meeting is always our picnic. Everyone brings a dish to share, and the fare is always fantabulous. Yesterday was no exception--two long tables filled with goodies. Our theme this year was Hawaiian luau, to go along with our program. Everyone got a colorful lei to wear, and a few members even dressed Hawaiian-ly. Not me though. I just wore denim capris and a blue shirt.

Our program was brought to us by a wonderful quilter whose name escapes me. Anyway, this quilter moved to Hawaii while her husband was in service. She lived there for 18 years and learned all about Hawaiian quilting and how to do it. Some of her tropical creations are pictured below.

Members also brought a wide array of beautiful quilts for show-and-tell.

A very small quilt. Don't miss the little bee, made of beads, on the left.

G8This (above) is the quilt our last year's president, Vasha,  made from her president blocks that members made for her.

If you know how much I love animal quilts, you will have already guessed that this was my favorite show-and-tell piece of the day. Following are some critter close-ups.

T
his is our 2013-14 Donation Quilt, which was given away at yesterday's meeting and won by a guild member. Although we sell tickets all over Birmingham and surrounding areas, we're always happy when a homegirl (or boy) wins.

This is our 2014-15 Donation Quilt, unveiled at guild meeting yesterday. Members named it "Starstruck." The drawing for this beauty will be held at Quiltfest 2015, our next quilt show, in June of 2015.

New officers for the 2014-15 guild year were installed.

But best of all...

I won the Block-of-the-Month drawing. I received 23 gorgeous quilt blocks made from scrumptious fabrics. I can't wait to make them into a quilt.

And since the traditional Hawaiian greeting means hello and also farewell, I will leave you today with...

ALOHA!

Wahoo!!!!! You won the Block-of-the-Month blocks!!!!!!!!!!!! What wonderful, jazzy fabrics your block-makers chose to use so this will be one great quilt!

Is it possible for me to enter the drawing for Starstruck? I love that quilt and the fabrics used. Is that block called Hunter's Star?

Thanks for all of the amazing eye candy, too. The Hawaiian quilts are lovely and the others are all seriously beautiful quilts.

Aloha and hugs!
