Three Rows Done

 Three rows

On Wednesday, while Anna cleaned house for me, I completed the first three rows of my snowball quilt. I wasn't very excited about this quilt for a long time, but now I'm thinking it's going to be a great accent piece for my living room.

And also I'm thinking of getting a new sofa for the living room. The one I bought right after Vann passed away is not working. It's cute, but uncomfortable. Everyone except me avoids sitting on it.

Has it taken me four years to realize that? Not really, but I'm finally ready to give in to the fact. I went for relatively cheap so that if the dogs got it dirty, I would be able to change it out in a few years. They haven't really got it dirty. So I think I'm going to offer it on Craig's List and look for me a nice comfy sectional. I should be able to get close to what I paid for it.

I'm thinking sectional, because I tried some out in a local furniture store a couple of weeks ago--and they were sooooo comfy. Also, there's a corner in my living room that isn't being utilized to with my current furniture layout. I think a smallish sectional and the elimination of one chair and maybe one table will give me more space ("for dog toys" as my daughter Andy said).

This is close to the size and configuration I want--but not the sofa. Too light. Too boring. (This one is used on eBay, which is probably why it looks so tired

Nope. Don't like the color or the fabric. And it doesn't look very comfortable.

This one has potential. Love the color, but I'm not sure it looks as comfy as I want.

This one is looking very loungeable, and I like the color.

Oh yeah! That's what I'm talking about! Except that it's probably too big, the configuration is wrong, and it needs to be a little bit darker. But oh, couldn't I curl up on this with a few dogs and cats and a good book or movie? You bet I could.

So Andy and I have made a date for Saturday, March 29, to go furniture shopping. I'm not buying any more couches online. I'm going to make sure I give the next one a text lounge before buying it. I'm going for comfort this time.

Cheers for your progress on this lovely quilt - 3 rows!!! Applause!!

Since seeing sweet, funny Mary Ellen Hopkins ages ago on Simply Quilts, I haven't sewed blocks into rows ever again. I use her method of sewing all of blocks together in pairs, then coupling all pairs to make 4 patches, then two 4 patches together, etc. This method means you have only one seam that goes the entire width OR length of the quilt and that suits me and my shoulders to a T.

What fun to shop for furniture and I applaud your decision to buy the next couch after sitting on it. I like some configuration of the couch in the last photo. The couches with squared arm rests or absent armrest would get voted off the island by me. If the couch has no skirt (middle photo) does have a great color but just imagine all the time you'd spend on your knees fishing the dog and cat toys out from under the couch because they'd be in plain sight. What is it I read about couch construction? Tied springs are good??

Remember not to get a couch with a fringe skirt because cats are addicted to playing with and damaging fringe that hangs. Do please listen to the voice of experience!

Would your current cute couch fit in another room in your home, like at the foot of your bed, in your sewing room, or in your guest room? Okay, I've seen too much HGTV in years past and I do have a friend who has a couch in her sewing room. Really. Just a few thoughts.

Sorry, this comment has turned into a book. My bad!

Hugs!

Oh, for sure. All sofas and chairs have to pass the butt test before they head home with you. Comfort is supreme. It's exciting to think of new furniture.

I have a couch with the chaise on one end. I wouldn't get it again. There is something odd with the back support when you sit with your legs extended on it. I really dislike buying furniture and I wish you GOOD LUCK in finding what you want and I hope you love it!!

make sure it is easy to get up out of! With Fibromyalgia and back issues, you want to make sure the sofa is tall enough to get up from.
