Happy Birthday, Jesse

Jesse and his mom, 1989

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the birth of my grandson, Jesse Ragsdale. I am very proud of this young man. He's smart and funny and kindhearted, and he loves cats. And he's very practical: when his mom suggested a few weeks ago that he get me flowers for my birthday, he got me a car battery instead, something I needed that Taco won't eat.

Going on two years ago now, Jesse decided he wanted to live with me. I agreed, although I wasn't at all sure it was a good idea. I had become used to living alone in the almost three years since Vann had died, and I sort of liked it. But now I admit that Jesse has been an excellent housemate, and I have enjoyed having him here. I don't even like to think of the time when he will decide to move out on his own

Jesse and his mom, circa now

Jesse works for a steel mill, operating something called a P2--or is it an O2, or PO2? I have no idea what that is, or even what you call it, obviously. He went to work for the company back in November as a mill assistant and, just a couple of weeks ago, received a promotion to this P2 operator position, plus a raise.

Jesse's hobbies are computer games and his dune buggy. This weekend, he placed first in an area dune buggy competition and received $100 prize money.Today, his birthday, he will spend most of the day asleep, getting ready to work a 10-hour night shift tonight. But before he goes, I'll feed him a nice birthday dinner and give him his gift. Andy, Jesse's mom, came yesterday afternoon, bearing a delicious birthday cake and gifts for her boy--since she will be getting off work today just as Jesse is going in.

We are extremely proud of our boy-- well, man now. It's hard to think of him as a man. Somehow in my mind, he got stuck in time around the day that circa 2000 picture was taken. And that's probably how I'll always think of him.

Happy Birthday, Jesse

Happy Birthday, Jesse!! He looks like a kind, good humored young man with a wonderful life ahead of him!

I hear you on finding it difficult to think of little boys of yesteryear being grown men now. Our two sons will be 30 and 34 this year and I still think of them as kids.

For the last year, DS2 has lived with his grandmother (AMIL) and that has worked out well for both of them.

Hugs!
