Thanks to those of you who expressed your congratulations on the inauguration of President Obama to his second term. It was quite an emotional day for me. I came of age during the civil rights movement in this small town of Leeds, which sits cheek by jowl to Birmingham, Alabama. I saw nightly news reports of the fire hoses and police dogs and beatings and murders and the brave people who stood against the violent segregationist establishment. I heard Dr. King tell us he had a dream, and I heard his account of having been to the moutain and seen what awaited. I know Dr. King was there yesterday as President Obama took his oath, and I know he had a big old wide smile on his face. So thank you all for sharing history with me.
But to be less serious, if I may, above is a photo of the tiny bit of work I've been able to accomplish over the past few days. I got the pieces cut out for my next Dollhouse block, Bedroom #1. I hope to get them fused today. I'm going to make a yo-yo pillow to add to the bed after it's all quilted. And I'll probably choose some fun buttons for drawer pulls.
As y'all mostly know, I've been feeling poorly most of the winter now--flu, fibromyalgia, back problems, and, I think now, severe kitty cat allergy. I am getting through the nights with the help of Zyrtec and the days by eating Benadryl like candy, and making sure I have plenty of tissues in every room.
To add a little cheer to my situation, Andy brought me some pretty flowers and a key lime pie. That girl is a fine one, she is. And today being National Pie Day, I'm going to celebrate with a nice slice and a cup of coffee.
Cheryl is cleaning while I'm holed up in my sewing room/studio/office, looking out the window watching the clouds roll by. We had two or three wonderfully sunny days. But now I guess the sun has gone back to sleep for a while.
I go now to fuse dollhouse pieces.

I guess you have lived right through some very exciting and momentous historical times Susan - I loved reading about this part. You'll have to tell us more about your experiences growing up in the South. I for one would be fascinated!

I, too, came of age in the '60s but am a bit younger. I started out in Memphis, but we moved to a Chicago suburb when I was ll, so I missed teen years in the South. When I was 18, I went back to Memphis for nursing school and love the South for many reasons.
American by birth, Southerner by the Grace of God!
Love your 2nd bedroom block and the details you plan to add will make it even more charming.
Hope you'll feel lots better soon. I'm coughing and sniffling, too, and it's frigid cold here so am staying in if at all possible.
FIL is probably not long for this world as he's sleeping most of the time and eating and drinking nearly nothing. AMIL needs a lot of attention. DH is at her house now. Prayers appreciated that FIL go soon before he's in pain or respiratory distress.
Hugs!

I was thrilled about the second inauguration from a Minnesota vantage point, and I appreciate what you lived through in Alabama!
Hope you are feeling better sooner than later!

I am sorry that you have to continue to struggle health-wise!
I am loving the checked bedside tables and red lampshades in your bedroom. Gonna be so cute.
Feel better, my friend.
