Yellow House Madness

Design
Taco decided he didn't like the way my string blocks were arranged.
This looks much better, he says.

Conditions at Yellow House deteriorating. Stop. Sophie refuses to become cat friendly. Stop. Kittens refuse to care. Stop. Head housekeeper has what appears to be sinus infection and bronchitis. Stop. No time for doctor visit. Stop. Must find solution. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop.

Remember telegrams? I wonder if there's still such a thing. Probably not; can't even find a pay phone anymore.

Jesse and I spent most of yesterday trying to come up with a solution to the apparent danger posed from Sophie to Taco and Bella, who have learned to jump over the fence at the top of the stairs.

Unless someone can watch them constantly, they have to be shut up in one of the upstairs bedrooms for their safety. We've tried everything we can think of, including hanging a quilt from the ceiling on a shower curtain rod. How long do you think that lasted? Not long.

I told Jesse that the only solution I know is to have a door installed at the top of the stairs. He expressed the concern that such a move would be expensive. Yeah, true. I'm sure it would. But this morning I've found what might be an inexpensive solution along the same line. An accordion door.

I went on line and found that Lowe's has them for under $50. The problem, of course, would be installation. Will Lowe's install the door and, if so, will they charge a fortune. So that's the plan for today--to find out about the accordion door.

Meanwhile, I'm getting behind on deadlines again. I'm two days late on the next circle journal. And while I have all my materials gathered, I have neither cut nor pasted a single image.

Also, I have to have my Block of the Months assembled for guild on Monday. Again, I have all materials, but it has to be assembled and put into envelopes.

Meanwhile, my respiratory condition continues to worsen. I MUST make it to see Dr. M. in the next day or two.

So toodle-loo for today. Maybe I'll have some progress on something to report tomorrow. But don't hold your breath.

Meanwhile, she waits at the top of the stairs.

Gosh, I'm sorry you're sick! Drop everything and go to the doctor now. Jesse's big enough to defend two cats. Maybe the doc could call in some medicine for you.

Hi Susan -
Don't let that respiratory thing get a foothold, it can be dangerous. If you can't get there call your doctor, tell him how sick you are and ask him to call something in for you.

Re: the kitty's, at some point in the near future they will be big enough to defend themselves and then they're going to give Miss Sophie a run for her money!

Hope you feel better soon. Wishing you blessings.
Linda

Nursie me says the same thing - get to the doctor pronto!

My suggestions:
1) Have a screen door installed on the doorway of a chosen room upstairs (and perhaps downstairs). Put a hook/eye latch on each screened door (inside and outside) where 4 legged critters cannot reach it. Put a litter box and food inside each chosen room. Put the kittens inside the screened off room(s). Sophie can come upstairs once again and the kittens are safe. I suggest you NOT choose your sewing room!!
2) Give Jesse kitten duty so you can
3) finish your projects.
4) be good to you!

Hugs!

Susan, Bare with me hear for a minute on the topic of dogs and cats adjusting to eachother. I don't know if the kittens have been declawed, but if the have NOT, then Sophie's only chance to hurt them is if she can sneak up on them from behind...it is very hard for a dog to best a cat, even a kitten because the feline species is more intimidating with the hissing spitting and slapping on the nose, with or without claws. I've been through it many, many times over the years and I just let them work it out and they always did. The worst that happened was a tiny scratch on one of my dogs noses from a tiny kitten she tried to grab. After that, they were never the best of friends, but they tolerated each other nicely and also played a bit together (when they thought no one was looking) and would also catch the occasional nap together).
I've never had the adjustment time last more than a week or 10 days, once I finally stopped separating them. HOwever, I did not ever leave them alone together if someone was not there to keep an eye on them, until they had finally settled down to the reality of their new lives together. Really, I know how agressive one, the other or both can be while they try to bully each other, but not once did I have injuries to either dogs or cats except the one little scratch.. If Sophie were a large breed, things might be different but she isn't so I think if your nerves can handle letting them work it out, the results will surprise you. Besides, separating them completely will stress you more in the long run that giving them a chance. OKay, now, having said that, if you do decied to go with the accordian door, don't get a poorly built one. We have a HUGE accordian door on our family room, it has lasted over 20 years and we installed it ourselves. Whichever way you decide to go, I hope you can arrange it so that you coninue to enjoy your furry kids as much as you always have. I will be keeping you my thoughts and prayers for both you pet situation and your health. I do hope you feel better very, very soon. BIg Hugs....

Susan, be sure and mention to the dr about the chlorine reaction. I like the idea of the screen door. That way they won't feel so isolated. Good luck.

I hope the "head housekeeper" gets herself into the doctor real soon. Sorry to hear about your breathing troubles of late. Take care.

My opinion....you need to have a lot of patience AND forgiveness to have pets or babies in a house. I knew along time ago that I have neither......so.....I've had neither....

Could your breathing problem be an allergy to the kittens?

Good wishes for the best of luck with everything!
