This Is NOT My Yellow House!

2n1lx

After another tense and stormy night, I opened up online photos of tornado damage just a few miles north of me, and this is one of the first photos I saw. The house in the photo looks so much like mine that I almost fainted.

At least two people have been reported killed in last night's Alabama tornadoes. And the extent of the damage is still not known since news crews are unable to go into some of the effected areas. Please keep my state in your prayers once again as we deal with Nature's fury.

I believe this is downtown Centerpoint.

Holy Toledo! I read the NPR story about your weather so popped over here to check on you. I almost fainted, too, but then I saw this house didn't have your flight of steps or the porch. Am so glad you're okay but my heart goes out to those who suffered loses. These intense storms are scary and your area has had about all you can take.

May there be only gentle rain in safe amounts with gentle breezes at weekly intervals to help the farmers and the gardeners.

Stay safe!

Big hugs!

Susan,
I read the forecasts yesterday and was aware of the potential problems, made even more serious in that the severe weather was expected at night.

So glad that you are safe but the fact that others were not has not escaped my attention at all!

Last fall we were in hurricane Irene’s direct track and the hurricane was expected at night. For that reason alone we decided to evacuate. Hurricanes can spawn tornados and we certainly did not want to deal with that at night. We had several days to make a decision to evacuate - I don’t believe your area had much advance notice. A couple of seasons ago we had a small tornado come through - I very much appreciated the notice that I received on our NOAA alert radio. We had no advance warning via weather forecasters. The tornado was close - when my neighbor realized that something was very, very wrong she tried to open the door to go get the horses out of the pasture only to find that she couldn’t open the door due to air pressure....

So glad that you are safe!

Whew! When I went to check your blog today, that photo was a shocker. So glad it is not The Yellow House you love...but am sorry for all those who were affected by the storm. We awoke here to very bad wind and pounding rain....I always am anxious after we had last year's tornado here. Luckily, the woodburner did not backdraft and we survived the worst of it last night...lost a rabbit barn door tho. Stay safe and warm....thinking of all in Alabama.

I'm glad you are okay. It sure does look like your home. My brother and his family live in Huntsville. We are under watches.......58, windy, rain and then tonight snow showers......not good.
I will pray for your state.

When I heard the news last night on the radio and they mentioned Birmingham, I immediately thought of you. My prayers are with you always, but sometimes even more than ever!

So glad to hear you're safe! I'm sure seeing that yellow house was shocking--so happy it wasn't your's but sorry that it does belong to someone. I'm hoping those people are safe! Take care and know that we're all thinking of you!

While I'm glad you are okay your community is in my thoughts. I saw it pop up on Blankets for littlest survivors on Facebook and my heart just broke.
Sending so many hugs your way.

I will echo everyone's joy in knowing that you are okay! But I KNOW how frightening this sudden weather mess can be. Tomorrow, we are expecting a rerun of what we had 3 weeks ago - street flooding, bad winds, heavy lightening, possible hail & tornado activity. It makes me LITERALLY sick to my stomach. I'm CERTAINLY keeping you and the entire STATE of Alabama, as well as ALL within the path of these unpredictable storms in my thoughts! LOVE YOU!
