If You Cook It, They Will Come

ThanksgivingfeastLeastwise that's the plan. An even dozen family members are scheduled to join me and the doggies for our Thanksgiving feast tomorrow.

I started cooking yesterday but didn't get much accomplished as I was nursing a particularly evil headache. A migraine that starts with the flickering in the peripheral vision of my left eye and proceed to visit the right side of my head with pounding pain. That's the third one of these I've had in two weeks. And I never have headaches--or hardly ever.

It was the headache, not the weather, that finally persuaded me to call Pete and beg off. He was very kind about the whole thing. I would have likely been upset if someone had broken a date with me, but Pete didn't seem to be. Very understanding, he was.

Well, anyway, I got the chicken for the dressing crock-potted yesteday. I'm doing the dressing the way my first MIL, Irene, did it. With the chicken in the dressing.

I'm also cooking a ham, cabbage, sweet potato casserole, french onion rice casserole, sour cream mashed potatoes, and brownies (Jesse always has to have brownies). My sisters are bringing salads and desserts, I think. We're also having yeast rolls, cranberry sauce,  gavy--oh, yeah, and ice cream to go with the brownies.

Think I went a little overboard? Well, I always do. There will be lots and lots of leftovers, I'm sure. So I can send everyone home with supper.

I'm out of here now. I need to be smelling stuff cooking.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!
(The second dog from right is one of Skipper's ancestors who came over on the Mayflower--Great Granny Tabitha, I think he called her.)

I have those migraine symptoms, but I haven't had pain with them in many years. Scary.

I love Skip's ancestor!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. And, to your doggie family, too! Who knew Skipper came from such fancy ancestors? I'm sure Sophie is impressed...or not.

Oh, so sorry about your migraines yesterday and in recent weeks. I get them, too, but infrequently I'm happy to say. I learned that if I could take one Codeine pill when I had the visual disturbance and then go to sleep, I could stop the migraine before it started. That was a wonderful discovery and at times I even left work if the visual disturbance started during a workday. Have you tried that? It's worth a try but I think you'd need a mega-pill to promptly take and not just aspirin, Tylenol or the like.

I'm glad Pete was understanding, too.

Your menu sounds scrumptious and you are going to be busy today and tomorrow morning. Is your recipe for the French onion rice casserole on the website here? If not, would you please post it after Thanksgiving?

We're dividing up cooking tasks so I'm making only the sweet potato casserole, the corn pudding, and a baked potato for DS2 who doesn't like sweet potatoes. Am also hard boiling 18 eggs, some of the eggs will go in the cornbread dressing DH is making, and the rest will be deviled. AMIL is doing the turkey, green bean casserole, a chocolate cake, a pumpkin pie, and a pecan pie. She loves to bake.

Love the Pilgrim dogs! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Hugs!

I'm sorry you've been getting those yukky headaches! I don't get migraines, but my daughter does & she says the only thing that helps her is sleep in a dark, quiet place. Yum to your dinner. I am taking a 20 minute break because I have my adopted senior ladies here 'helping' me bake. Do I REALLY need to translate that? LOL! Actually they are precious. I just could have done without company today. I admit, I tend to work better alone. Sorry your date had to be postponed. I bet there will be others! Pete sounds very sweet! And I believe MY doggy ancestor, Chief Woofandwag KNEW Skipper's Great Granny Tabitha! (Susan, you are a GLORIOUS NUT!!! LOL!) HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND ALL OF YOUR WONDERFUL FAMILY1 This crazy Houstonian LOVES you!

Susan,
I have an occasional migraine as you describe, and slowly figured out it was a reaction to MSG somewhere in something I ate in the past 24 hours. Hope you can find out the cause and the cure.
Have a wonderful feast with your family.

Susan, I hope your day tomorrow will be a wonderful one and free of headaches! Happy Thanksgiving to you. We're spending it 3 hours away with friends, but the girls and I each had our to-do list of what we're taking. Should be fun...and I hope your day is, too. And to be honest, I'd take a thick Ghiradelli brownie over pie any day! :)

Happy Thanksgiving, Susan. Hope you feel better...not fun migraines. And, that was nice that Pete was understanding.
