No, this is not a recipe for a new kind of casserole. It's instructions for a new (at least to me) kind of quilt: a lasagna quilt made from a jelly roll.
This is one of the things Martha E. showed us how to make this morning at Quilt Bee meeting. The quilt uses one jelly roll (or 40 (2 1/2") strips cut from the width of various fabrics.
You sew all the strips together, end to end, then fold the resulting looooonnnngggg strip in half, stitch down one long edge, trim the folded end, fold again, and stitch down one long edge again. You continue folding, stitching, and trimming until you have a 48" x 64" quilt top as shown in photo above.
For more detailed instructions, a video, and more photos of the Jelly Roll Lasagna quilt, go HERE.
The other thing that Martha showed us how to make was a children's coloring bag. I'll show you that another time. Right now, I'm going to pull out one of my collected jelly rolls and see if I can do this.
Note: For those who don't know what a jelly roll is, go here.

Hi, I've been reading your blog for a while now and I don't think I have commented before but I might have. Ohhh my memory is awful...
Anyway I love how the jelly roll quilt looks. I don't know what a jelly roll is and I can't figure out how the ladies in the video were folding to get it to come out but the result is really cool. So how would you quilt that? Parallel lines or ????
I really enjoy coming here and reading about your life and books and dogs!

I've heard about these jelly roll quilts and I've had the idea in the back of my mind to make one. These are really pretty and I like the way they joined the strips diagonally. Thanks for posting the photo.

It looks like the quilt my friend made me. She calls it a quilt as you go. Have you heard of that.

Love the quilts and the technique! How do people think of these things??? Now I need to buy a jelly roll, don't I? Just imagine how many different ways these quilts would look depending on which jelly roll you start with.
What a great bee you belong to!
Thanks for the tutorial link!
Hugs!

I made my first lasagna quilt yesterday-- being slower than most it took me 3 1/2 hours---I thought that was great timing for a quilt. Question: when I got to the end it was very tangled so cutting it was kind of hard-anyone have a solution for that. Thanks
