The Longest Day

Happy Summer Solstice

If you know much about me, you know that summer is not my favorite time of year. I spend each autumn, winter, and spring dreading the heat and humidity that are inevitable in this part of the world in summer.

But I always look forward to Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. Why? That's the day that the earth tips back the other way. Days start getting shorter and, eventually, the air will cool and Nature will become my friend again.

It's also the night when one can light a bonfire and dance around it naked if one desires. Not me. Bonfires just make things hotter, even with your clothes off.

Happy Summer Solstice to you, too! I love this day for the same reasons you do, the anticipation of shortening days and longer nights.

I planted two pots of purple cone flowers this morning and thought I'd die from digging the two holes in that humid, post rain sunshine. One glass of ice water later and I think I'll live. Bonfire? No thanks!!

Hugs!

This is my favorite day too....and for the same reason....Can't stand the heat in So. Ca. during July, Aug., and Sept., but the days are getting shorter!!
Dancing around the bonfire naked?!?! Yikes, I would probably set a fire and then the fire department would show up..,.I would be embarrassed and they would be appalled to see my naked body. Thanks for the laugh! (I've haven't been missing....just very involved with helping my dad.) Love reading your blog! Pat Mc

Oh I am just the same. I say all winter how I like snow. People think I am crazy. They all complain, I tell them they will complain when it is stinkin hot. They do.......I just don't like the heat. It has been a hot summer so many places. Bring on the cooler temps.

Add me to the 'love this day for that very reason' pack! But I DO dread August & September 'cause that's when Houston tends to get any hurricanes we're going to get. UGH! I am WAITING none too patiently for some nice, brisk weather! My daughter, who just moved to Duluth, Minnesota, is freaking out 'cause it's still in the 40s there during the day. I need to MOVE there! LOVE YOU, Susan! And here's to nude dancing around bonfires! Cheers!
