Homebody Hoosie*

Beach dogs

I love the beach and having nothing to do but enjoy family, surf, and sand. So why do vacations wear me out? Why do I spend most of my time on vacation planning what I'll do when I get home? Why do I count the days till I can sleep in my bed, sew at my Bernina, lie on my couch and read, walk through my neighborhood and say hi to friends? Just call me Homebody Hoosie. (*Hoosie [Suzie] is what my little sister Ramey called me when she was first learning to talk.)

I am so glad to be home. But I'm not the only one. Jesse came back two days early, and Andy and I came back a day early. We had vacationed sufficiently.

But we did have fun. Andy and Jesse spent some quality time sitting in the sand and having some mama-son talks that they hardly every have time for at home. I finished one book and read half of another one. I also visited one of my favorite quilt shops, Quilting By the Bay in Panama City, Fla. Here's what I bought, not a lot as you can see.

I'm going to make the jack-o-lantern, using the Fusible Quick Grid method, to hang on my door during October. I've never done this method, and it looks interesting. I'll probably find that it would have been easier to just sew the squares together the regular way, but we'll see.

Sophie and Skipper were good dogs on vacation, but I can't say that they really enjoyed it. I think they were both just glad to be home in familiar surroundings. Sophie has been on vacation lots of times but, as far as we know, this was Skipper's first vacation, and he was a smidgen nervous the whole time. I believe he feared we had ulterior motives for bringing him so far away from home. He was not a good traveler either. He insisted on sitting in my lap (Andy did all the driving) all the way down and all the way back. And he squirmed and wiggled the whole time.

Skipper prefers to remain on guard, just in case someone tries to leave him.

I was so exhausted by the time we got home yesterday, I didn't unpack anything or put anything away. I've done a little of that this morning, but still have some more to do. So I'll say toodles for now. But first, here are a few more beach photos.

I hear you loud and clear! I complain to Wes that we don't go anywhere and then when we do I complain that I had to pay $4.29 for a glass of tea.

There's a lot of truth to the saying, "There's no place like home"!

I'm a bit like that to Susan, I go away on great vacations, have a wonderful time, but secretly always count the days and I'm always very glad to be home. I guess it's a very good sign that we are happy in our own homes - I mean that's where we spend most of our time, right?! Glad you're home safely!

Welcome home, Soph and Skip--and Susie, too! Love your pics, and glad you had a good time.

Welcome home. I just got home last night from our first beach family vacation since the grandbabies were born. I am glad to be home but not glad to be away from them. They are still so young, 8,5, 5, 5, 2, 1. FOur of them live in Colorado and I live in Ohio.
Now the fun part, settling back in. Thanks for sharing your pictures. My parents had a condo In PCB for several years. So pretty.

What a lovely sounding vacation. Since I am in the midst of packing up my house for my move, sitting under an umbrella reading a book sounds divine!

I echo the Welcome home! You're so right that Skipper wasn't sure about what was happening and couldn't rest assured that Sophie was knew what she was talking about. He certainly looks suspicious in that photo!

Cute Jack-o'Lantern! Are those Scrabble tile teeth on the shop sample? No Halloween sewing for me this year as other things are in my plans.

Love the vacation pics and the fact you're wise in planning to play at a beach near a great quilt shop!!

Happy being home! Hugs!

I totally understand. It is so good to get away but it is so good to get home. I love the beach but not in the way I used to. Now I love to walk on it and look at it. When I was younger I loved riding the waves but not now!! lol

There is no place like home. We all want to get away but enjoy the return even better. Is there any place where the grass is greener? I think not. It has rained off and on today so my grass is GREEN. I don't live near water but I would think that would be relaxing and soothing to one soul. Thanks for sharing.

Dorothy was sure right, wasn't she? Glad you had a nice trip and happy you're back in your own house with your own stuff!
p.s. Did Skipper dig in the sand or was that kind of strange to the poor dog, too?

I love to go, but I love to come home too! Looks like you are ready for some fall sewing. ;)

I'm SUCH a terrible spoiled brat-friend. Why? Because I'm GLAD you had a good time, but even MORE glad that you're back! I MISSED YOU!

When I saw the picture of your Skipper, a little pang hit my heart. My all-time favorite dog was a little rat terrier that looked so much like Skipper. His name was Fonzie. He was just the smartest little dog, and a wonderful pet. Sadly, shortly after we moved to Alabama from Kanssas, he got out of our fenced-in backyard (a worker left our gate open), and he was killed on a busy nearby road. It was such a devastating time for our whole family!! If I ever get another dog, it will be a rat terrier.

Welcome Home, and I could not agree more, there's no pace like home! I'm exactly like you, loving vacation but counting the days until it's over. You needed a rest, sounds like you got one.

I know how you feel about vacations! I spend days dreaming about them ~ and getting ready for them. Then while vacationing (meaning camping in our travel trailer), I dream of what I'll do when I get home. But getting away makes me appreciate home more. I'm glad you're back! I can't wait to see your fall quilt hanging!

Skipper looks skeptical about the entire venture. Glad the rest of you had a good time.

Oh the beach...looks so tempting, right? I love that Jack O Lantarn, cannot wait to see that finished.

Always good to be home! Love the surf, though - just watching, listening. I'm glad you got to visit QBTB, though sounds as if you had already discovered it!

Will be 3 hours nearer my sister in a few weeks as we're moving back to NE Mississippi! I'll be ready for an October visit after all this moving. What a job! I was dreading for it to be in July; just trying to time my outdoor time when it is cooler. Huh? Cooler? Did I just say that??
