Transitioning

  Tues1
First UFO I plan to bust in 2011

After declaring yesterday a day of rest, I went on to clean the kitchen, do three loads of laundry, and clean out the freezer. But later in the day, I did rest on the couch and watch movies. When there's stuff to be done, I feel like such a shirker if I don't do it. Anybody have a cure for this ridiculous attitude?

I was going to try to leave my holiday decorations up until at least New Years, if not 12th Night, like some of you do. But that sort of depressing feeling started yesterday, and I wanted the decorations packed up and put away. So I will probably start putting stuff away today with the goal of having it all down and stashed for next year by the end of the week.

I'm excited about the UFO Bust. Can't wait to get started. I'll start by finishing up the Noah's Ark quilt for the church nursery and getting a couple of tops off to the quilter.

Later this week (maybe) I'll post the guidelines for the challenge as well as a sign-up list for those who want to take part. They're going to be very loose guidelines. We don't need any more pressure to add to what we already have. We'll have one day a week (probably) for progress reports and photos and some prize drawings from time to time. All very laid back, so if you have lots of UFOs in your stash that you'd like to finish up, why not join in on the fun?

Tues4

As the above photo indicates, my sewing room really needs a going over before I start anything. The sewing table especially. No heavy cleaning, just a bit of putting away stuff that I pulled out during the holiday hoopla.

I also need to get a haircut. I am way past due for one. And I have some end-of-the-year business things to take care of. Then I'm ready to sew. How about you?

I have one more week off until school starts, but I feel like a shirker, too, if I'm not constantly "doing something". I did take down all the decorations yesterday and I'm putting them up today, and hoping to get a (long) delayed haircut. One of my New Year's resolutions is to allow myself to just do NOTHING at times and not feel guilty about it.

Sounds good to me Susan! I'm in! I don't know what the answer is to not being able to do nothing. I fell on the ice and should be resting my sore back - guess what? can't do it....still pottering (hobbling?) around. My theory is that we are just not couch potato types....and actually I think that's probably not a bad way to be!
Can't wait to see how Noah's Ark turns out!

You know, I think this 'can't just relax' business is a FEMALE thing! I used to think it was a Virgo thing, but, huh-uh! I mean, do ANY of you know a GUY - no matter HOW hard-working he is when he's AT work or in the middle of a have-to-do thing - who can't readily plop down in his easy chair & happily do nothing? I surely don't know any! Currently, it's 9:48 A.M. & I've exercised 2 hours (as I do 6 mornings a week) showered, stopped at McDonald's for a quick coffee & short visit with the sweet lil' kiddos who work there, been to the grocery store & home to put stuff away, and pulled out things to make a birthday gift for one of the 4 coffee club ladies from Barnes & Noble. Also got all the stuff ready to make lunch when my housemate gets back from having his ears lowered. Even NOW I had to get on the computer rather than just SIT. Yep. I say it's a female malady, this guilt trip we get if we just relax. Hmmm ... going to add that to my goal list for 2011: TRY to learn to r-e-l-a-x! Yeah. Right.

I hear you about the unable to sit and do nothing without a busy brain blasting me back to work - or annoying you-shouldas bounding through my head. I used to cross stitch when sitting and that satisfied the Can't-be-idle thoughts. Perhaps I should get out one of my three cross stitch UFOs?

Should our mantra for 2011 be "Just say NO to guilt!" ?? Or perhaps "Sit before you use up all your spoons and fall over!"?? Or maybe, "I deserve to sit whenever I want to. So there!!"??

My sewing room needs straightening before getting out my UFOs as several of them need borders and that takes up space. I'm looking forward to seeing your completed Noah quilt, too. It's so joyful!

For the first time ever, I'm ready to have most of the Christmas decor put away but others here are not. I should wait for more of the snow to melt so I can get the boxes more easily.

Be good to you!

Hugs!

I also look forward to seeing the Noah's ark quilt finished - very cute what you are doing! And finishing up some UFO's, yup, I'm inspired. We have to be away on business for the first week of January, but when we get back, I am going to get the sewing area cleared out and get started on some of those unfinished projects. And if I start up something and just don't love it anymore, it is going to go live with someone else. I should get out some of the unfinished knitting and cross stitch projects as well!

Happy Holidays to you Susan! Just wanted to tell you that I grew up in northern Indiana on chicken noodle, tomato, vegetable beef, and chicken gumbo. Never heard of Pepper Pot (thank goodness).

I truly enjoy your blog. Your dogs are a great team and I like to see their pictures.
