Happy Festivus...

Festivus2  ...for the rest of us!

For those of you, like me, who hate the hussle and bussle, the pressures, the extreme commercialism of this time of year, this is our holiday--FESTIVUS.

If you aren't a "Seinfeld" fan, you very well might not know about this stress-free celebration. If not, click on the link above to read all about it.

Unfortunately, I cannot celebrate Festivus today in the manner in which it was intended. I still have much hussling and bussling to go. So I'm postponing my Festivus festivities, which, for me, will consist of staying in bed all day with a good book, until Monday, when all the traditional celebrations will be over around here. I'm going to forego the Festivus Pole, the Festivus Meal, the Airing of Grievances, and all the other traditional Festivus hoopla. Adding too many traditions and activities is just what has made the Christmas holidays so unbearably stressful in the first place.

Thurs4 I got a lot done yesterday: some gifts and a hummingbird cake delivered, some gifts wrapped/ bagged, one lost gift found. Linda and Joe came to clean, and Jesse came to do his laundry. So while I had two strong men in the house, I asked them to bring my corner cabinet upstairs from the basement. The cabinet I bought second hand that needed much work and painting, remember.

I quickly stashed a few dishes in it to take a photograph. I'll gussy it up a little more when time permits.

Thurs1 My friend and neighbor Maria came down for a short visit yesterday afternoon, and just look what she brought me. Maria is an artist with her embroidery machine. I love the way she used my name and the mirror image of my name to create the boughs of the trees. Don't they look lovely hanging on Gertrude's oven door handle?

  Thurs2

So I best get going now. I have one more hummingbird cake to bake, more shopping to do, gifts to wrap and deliver, and--what?, I think that's it. The chores will be done and the celebrating can begin. Happy Holidays, everyone. All of them: Festivas, Christmas, Kwanza, birthdays, New Years, and everything before, between, and thereafter.

Festivus is a new one on me. I've never heard of it so will read more about it.

LOVE your new-to-you corner cabinet!!! What fun to have another piece of furniture to decorate!

Your kitchen towels so perfectly embroidered for you by Maria are just lovely! Well done, Maria, and so thoughtful, too!

AMIL is making a hummingbird cake for our Christmas dinner. Glad your project earned so much for the organizations you wanted to support! Well done, you!

My afternoon will be spent making cranberry chutney and a chocolate pistachio cake - and hoping to hear the quilt arrived.

Hugs!

I wanted to let you know what absolute perfection your cake is! Sparks were flying from fast moving forks and the sort of moans one would normally only hear in a porno filled the room. That is some very fine cake!
Much love to you.
Kris

Lovely cabinet! I've finished shopping (what little I did), delivered cookies to the library employees, the workers at the local post office, and the trash pickup crew, and have only a little baking left to do . . . I am *so* looking forward to the twelve days this year! Time to enjoy my tree, listen to seasonal music, do some reading in my stash of Christmas books, eat more cookies than I ought to . . . other than the two mandatory family gatherings (Christmas day and the day after), no visiting and no have-to-do-its go on until Twelfth Night!

I have tired of the hustle and bustle and OMG the horrid traffic! I'm staying in where it's peaceful and quiet. I adore that corner hutch!

Susan, love the towels that Maria made. What type of machine does she have? I am trying to decide if I am going to trade my old machine in for a new one and trying to find one that can do lots of neat things that my old one can't do.
I hope that 2011 is wonderful for you! I enjoy your blog very much and also enjoy all the facebook posts!

My favorite Seinfeld show was the festivus for the Rest of us one. I think george's Dad is one of the few people who could make this sound believable....VERY funny.

Thanks, Michelle, for your sweet comment. I think Maria has a Viking, but I'm not sure what model. --Susan
