Hallowe'en in the 'Hood

Halloween3

Our neighborhood Halloween gathering took place in Paul and Karen's driveway, as usual (across the street from The Yellow House). There were hot dogs with all the fixing (compliments of Paul), baked beans (compliments of Maria), cupcakes (compliments of Karen), pumpkin bundt cake with caramel sauce (compliments of Yours Truly), and a table full of treats for all the ToTers who stopped by. Most of the neighborhood people showed up.

There were also real, furry dogs o'plenty. After about 30 minutes of partying, I was exhausted from trying to control Skipper on a leash and keep him untangled from everyone and everything. So I took him and Sophie home. Jesse was at my house doing his laundry and didn't want to join the fun outside. He promised to not let the dogs get out, and I went back to the party.

A little while later, Sophie appeared beside my chair and here came Skipper barrelling across the street like a greyhound. Jesse had answered the door for a TorTer ("Go across the street," he told them. "They have hotdogs."), and the doggies made their escape. So I let them stay at the party, both off leash. Skipper did great except for begging constantly for snacks and kicking a glass of chardonney over in my lap.

Below are a few photos of the Halloween merriment.

Halloween11
Joyce welcomes one of the new kids on the block, Juliette and Trevor's pup Henry.

Henry
Sophie explains to Henry the rules of the 'hood. "I'm top dog. What I say goes. Never forget, and we'll get along fine--maybe."

Drac & MH
Dracula and The Mad Hatter make an appearance.

Hallween2
Oops! Somebody dropped his face.

Halloween8
"Can we go home now, SuSu? I'm tired." And so we did.

Halloween5
Thanks, Paul and Karen, for another great neighborhood gathering.

I'm looking forward to a full day today. Both dogs need baths, I have several errands to run, and I want to stop in at our local library's yard sale. They're holding it to make money to build our new library--which we desperately need. If you're in the area, try to pay them a visit. The sale is taking place on Parkway Drive, about in the middle of the block and on the same side of the street as the library. You can't miss it. Leeds is a small town.

What a great neighborhood you're in and what a fab party! I really enjoyed the pictures and it's wonderful the 4 legged kids were welcome there.

Happy hunting at the book sale. I'd be there in a heartbeat if it weren't for the long drive each way over the mountains and thru the woods! Of course, there's the added fact that I need books like I need a hole in my head.

Hope your spoons last longer than your list does!

Hugs!

I surely wish I lived in YOUR area! THAT'S what I call being neighborly! I invited all the neighbors on this street to come over for a WELCOME TO AUTUMN SOUP party a while back. I had planned to make 3 HUGE pots of soup (veggy beef, chicken & rice, and Canadian cheese) apple cakes, breads & crackers, and miscellaneous drinks. I did this for ages years ago & I'd missed doing it. The neighbors looked at me as tho' I had just invited them over to be murdered, & made various excuses. I felt so sad. Our next door neighbors - the ones who WOULD have come - couldn't because the wife had been extremely ill for 3 months after a minor surgery gone bad. But I (OF COURSE) understood that! At any rate, your neighborhood sounds so nice & friendly! I'm GLAD you all had so much fun! LOVE YOU!!!!!

That party looks like it was SO much fun! My daughter Sara and her husband did the same thing in their driveway last night. It's a great way to get to know your neighbors!

Susan,
Looks like you and the babies had a great time! You have wonderful neighbors.
I went through Leeds the other day and stopped in at the Monkey's Uncle? (I think that was the name) They told me they had a Christmas store and I went in there too! Loved it!
Hugs,
Donna

halloween in a small community is always nice, as opposed to the big city
