Grace in a Nut Tree
By Susan Ramey Cleveland

The golden glowing hickory tree,
In the autumn of the year,
Makes me ponder in my mind
Why God put it here.

For it's beauty, for sustenance,
To hold the soil in place--
Or only to personify
God's golden glowing grace?

There are so many beauties here,
Not just this golden tree--
Too many to enumerate,
They prove God's love for me.
***

I'm usually too shy to let anyone read any of the rare poems that I write. I know I'm not a poet. But as I was walking Sophie and Skipper this morning, I was thinking about God and talking to him. My best worship comes at times like these. The hickory trees caught my attention, and these lines popped into my head. So I give them to you, for better or worse, this beautiful sabbath morning.

Your poem is not only well written but it is a wonderful worship of God. My relationship with God seems so much more real when I'm out in nature. Yes, I attend church faithfully, but sometimes we find God more easily in the very places that He designed. The hickory tree is beautiful and so is your poem.

How sweet! I love the hickory tree poem. However, inside joke, Grace in a Nut Tree makes me want to write my own irreverant version.
