Got Birds?

Birds1

What a fine day yesterday was. I went to early church service and Sunday school, came home and made a huge bowl of guacamole, went to our favorite thrift store with Andy and my sister Ramey, came home and grabbed the guacamole, and went to my Walk to Emmaus reunion group meeting. Someone had decided on a Mexican theme, and I can truly say I've never been to a Mexican restaurant that had better food than we had last night. But then the deliciousness of it all was eclipsed by my severe indigestion that I suffered for most of the rest of the night. I suspect the culprit was the onion in the guacamole.

StairwellOur thrift store trip was a lucrative one. Everyone found treasures. I had been playing with the idea of collecting bird prints to hang in the cavernous stairwell at The Yellow House (see photo at left). And it so happened that I found several very beautiful bird prints, including the one above and those below.

As you see, I haven't taken the price tags off any of them yet. I hate that job, don't you? Why do retailers find it necessary to stick those hateful things on the front of everything. They're so hard to removed. Let's start a movement--or maybe a Facebook group called "Let's See If We Can Find a Zillion People Who Hate Those Little Hard-to-Remove Stickers Stuck to the Fronts of Their Purchases."

I know I'll need many more bird prints to cover the walls going up those stairs. But it's a start, and I'll have fun collecting more.

I already have a collection of thrift-store prints of cottages that will hang in the dining room. I'll show those someday.

Paint on Porch Look what a mess I made on Saturday when I was painting my desk. I had covered the floor under the desk, but somehow I managed to make a mess anyway. I'm probably the messiest painter in the history of the world. I have to figure out how to remove that paint. I have great plans for my screened back porch, and none of them involve a splotchy floor.

All right, work awaits, so I better get to it. I hope everyone has a great Monday.

I'm so glad you had a good day yesterday! I hope you have good days all this coming week (and BEYOND!) I hope you know I now have to make some guacamole. Sigh. It's been whispering in my good ear ever since I read the last post. The BAD thing is, I can't afford to make much because I will EAT it. ALL of it. One of my real, true weaknesses, avacado. I tried making the 'healthier' Brocamoli. Uh ... nope! Not EVEN as good! Love the idea of bird prints for the stairwell walls! You found some really pretty ones! And, YES! I LOATHE stickers on the front of purchases! Hobby Lobby is notorious for doing that, & it annoys me to no end. I reserve my worst Comanche language for those times I'm fighting with a sticker. Grrrrr! Don't know how to get paint off a floor, but I DO know you can't be the worst painter because I definitely hold that title & have the paint splatters/spills to prove it. Sigh. NOT a title I'm thrilled to accept. LOVE YOU!

Get in line for that messiest painter title! I can make one brush stroke and have paint on my pants, hands, shirt and floor.
I love the sweet bird prints you found!

What lovely bird prints! They will certainly add charm along your stairs or on the wall at the top of the stairs. Now I want to find and frame the bird prints my mother collected and never framed, but where would I hang them?

When shall we see your cottage prints? Color me eager to see them.

I keep Tums for those after-food-I-cannot-live-without nights! Hope you're feeling lots better today.

Hugs!

Goo Gone is what you need to take those stickers off.

Have you ever considered (or maybe ever attended) the HWY 127 yard sale? I've always wanted to go, but something always got in the way ... like my job because I was always back in school when the yard sale was in progress. But now that I'm retired, maybe I can get to it one year ... hopefully!

There used to be a product called "OOPS" that would take paint off of floors, cabinets, etc. if it hadn't set there for a super long time. I don't know if it is available anymore. Might be worth a try though. Loved the bird prints.

I take off those horrid stickers with "Goo Gone" I think it's made by 3M..The bottle I have is almost 30 years old, and there's still 1/2 a bottle left. It smells a little like gasoline with an oil base. My dad swore by the product and bought the bottle for me in 1975 - or there abouts.
I love your bird pics -- our thrift shops don't have the same kind of goodies all you bloggers seem to find at ya'lls local stores.
The Yellow House is looking good - you inspired me to make my dining room more floral and "girlie". But the living room is still "country" and that's okay until my daughter & SIL build their log cabin house - then she can have the oldies at her house.

I think that there is a long line of messy painters and I am definitely well to the front - I painted a bedroom once and had to hire a painter to redo it because I managed to get a lot of the coloured paint on the white ceiling (didn't know about painters tape then). Those prints are going to look so pretty lining that long stairwell. This will probably sound like a stupid question, but have you tried just scraping the white paint off the porch?

Hate those stickes! For the paint on the floor try using peanut butter to remove it. My sister-in-law swears by it.

peanut butter works on the stickers too..slop it on, let it sit for a while and rub off..after the sticky stuff is off, polish the glass with window cleaner..
