The above photo shows my sister Ramey (left) and author Irene Latham (right) holding a quilt that our friend Mary U. made and donated to help raise funds to build a new library in our hometown. We have quite outgrown our current one.
Ramey and Mary both work at the library, Mary as a volunteer. Irene visited the library on Saturday for a presentation and book signing. She read passages from her new book for young people entitled Leaving Gee's Bend, set in 1932 Gee's Bend, Alabama. You quilters will surely recognize the name Gee's Bend as the home of some outstanding quilters who have gained fame in recent years.
I hear it was a delightful program. I myself forgot to attend.

So THAT'S Ramey! She LOOKS like you! (Now why did I sound so surprised - duh - considering she's your sister? LOL!) How cool that she got to meet Ms. Latham!

One MORE DUH from your goofy friend over here! I intendned to tell you I JUST finished reading Leaving Gee's Bend a week ago! I passed it on to my housemate's former co-worker who has cancer and is coping by quilting! It's really a VERY good book!

Nice to meet Ramey and the quilt is wonderful! It's so very good of Mary U. to make such a great quilt for such a worthy cause. Applause!
I have seen some of the Gee's Bend quilts and they are amazing art.
Sorry you forgot to attend... oops!
Hugs!

I love the Gee's Bend quilts because they remind me of the old quilts my mother used to make. Not that they look like them so much but the idea of using up what you had. Good luck with the library!
