Time to put an end to the 1000-posts drawing sign-ups--at midnight tonight. Each comment left on every post from January 14 through today will count as one entry. And those of you who answered the Dark and Stormy Night question correctly will get an extra entry. I'll draw for the prize, shown in photo above, tomorrow and post the name of the winner. Below is a list of prize descriptions:
1) A collection of 101 cookie cutters, including alphabet, letters, holidays, animals, and more.
2) A Taste of Heaven cookbook, edited by me and containing recipes from great cooks in my church.
3) A copy of the February issue of Southern Living magazine.
4) One of my crocheted hearts.
Good luck to everyone!

The photo above shows a gorgeous antique quilt that my sister Ramey found at a yard sale for $20! Can you believe it? She is one of the best thrifters I know.
I love yard sales and thrift stores, but I have vowed to stay out of them at least until I'm done with my decluttering project, which will likely be months from now.
I think I'm going to do one of those Fly Lady things today where you go through the house with a garbage bag and choose 27 things to throw away. They're going to have to be 27 light-weight things though. The muscles spasms are just a wee bit better this morning (or maybe it's the drugs). I don't want to give those muscles something else to complain about.
I hope this is the beginning of a happy and productive week for all my blogging buddies.

It's good to hear you're feeling cautiously better! Be wise as you choose objects to pass along or toss. Do you think the kids will need a look at the pass-along items in case they want them?
I'm choosing a couple of UFOs to deal with. These need borders or applique. The applique will be good for these winter nights. Over the weekend I hand quilted around 16 little stars in a pre-printed panel from the 1970s that I made into a doll quilt back in 1997. I was never satisfied with the minimal machine quilting I did but now I love it! I do have sore fingers, though...
Kudos to your eagle-eye sister! Love the quilt!!
Hope you have the warmth and sunshine we do.
Hugs!

What a lovely give away Susan and whow on that antique quilt for $20! That was the steal of the century :) I'm so sorry that your fibro has been causing you such misery. Chronic issues are the worse! My honey has been dealing w/severe pain day in and day out for 5 years now (severe multi level spinal stenosis), so I certainly symphathize w/your battle. "Feel better" prayers are being sent up and OMG on that "rat pack honey of yours!" I thought mine was the "King of the Rat Packs," but your wonderful Vann may beat him :)

Awesome prizes! I made one of your hearts last week...it is going on my front door knob for the month of February! That quilt is so pretty...and what a deal for that price! Do you have a computer chair with wheels or perhaps a dining chair with wheels? Put your trash bag on it, wheel it around with you and then you don't have to carry anything! Once you have arthris, you think of SO many things to help out! Plus, I am short and have always had to improvise for that...isn't life grand?!
Hope you don't do to much today..
Hugs from Indiana...

Don't you wonder what goes through people's minds when they sell a quilt like that or even worse it ends up in a thrift store? Someone put a lot of work into it. I'm afraid I'd be heartbroken if mine ended up that way. But...victory for your sister...great find! Hope you and Sophie are enjoying the sunshine today!

Wow, I miss reading you for a day or two and look what happens. You're very generous with prizes. Even if I don't win, I apologize for not reading you daily. I've been a bit cranky lately and just now discovered why. I haven't read you for several days. You are my Prozac.

Some people are quilt magnets! I know a gal who has great luck, including one she got out of the 'dog box' at her local thrift shop.

It's mind boggling to think anyone can truly post 1,000 times! AWESOME! Congratulations! Even MORE awesome? That quilt for such a bargain price! WOW! Don't overdo with the Fly Lady organizing. Maybe Sophie can help you by fetching stuff to put IN the bag! LOL!

Just to share, I just love that cookbook...Susan sent me a copy with a swap gift. It has some tasty dishes in it. I hope you are on the road to recovery Susan! What a great find your sister picked up.

Hi Susan,
I love your sister's quilt - butterflies are one of my favorite patterns and one day I am going to make one of my own. What a deal she got- You just do not find quilt deals like that here in Western Canada.
One of the reasons I started making quilts was because I couldn't afford to buy them.
I was looking at the booklist on the side and reading your take on The Help. Like you, I absolutely loved the book- one of the best books I have read in a very long time- powerful and thought provoking.
Hope you are feeling better.
Warmest regards,
Anna

When I was widowed and wanted to move to a smaller, less responsibility place, I dealt with the clutter by involving my sons. I picked out the stuff I needed to live. I then asked them to come one weekend and pick out stuff they would take with them if I died suddenly. You would be surprised at what they consider worth keeping! It took a lot of decisions off my hands. Good luck with the process of giving up so many years!

Your sister sure did find a bargain! I go to thrift shops and yard sales but haven't been that lucky. I'm sorry but I had to laugh at your Fly Lady entry, but I know exactly whay you mean -- you're not alone in your plight. Hope you feel better.....

That pattern for the thrift store quilt is what first drew me to quilting. I thought it would be perfect for one of the girls. Since I have since learned I am no good at quilting, just ask my assembled tops. lol
I guess I'll have to keep my eyes out at Garage sales. That really is a great find. Congrats on being a great blogger.
