13 Ghosts

Pic_face ...and assorted creatures. That's all the trick-or-treaters we had at The Yellow House last night--13. I can't believe it. Where were all the little goblins that I bought all that candy for? Could it be they've all grown up? Or could it be they all went to Oliver Crossings, a local neighborhood with no hills, where families start gathering before sundown and the police department has to provide traffic control?

I did get to see my old friend Glenda, though. Her son, DIL, and grandchildren live across the street, and Glenda and her husband were visiting from Tennessee. Sophie and I walked over to Paul and Karen's, enjoyed the fire Nolan had built in Eddie's freestanding outside fireplace, and talked with the group gathered there. We didn't stay long as it was way past pajama time for me and Sophie.

10 Bunnies

I decided I needed a project to work on in the evenings when I'm downstairs watching tv. I bought the book Bunnies & More a while back with the intent of making this quilt someday. So I've decided that day has come. I started on my first hand appliqued bunny block yesterday.

While watching the Georgia/Florida game, I got the bunny all appliqued onto the background square. But then a search of my sewing room, top to bottom, proved I had no black embroidery floss to do the blanket stitch around him. I had dark brown, and almost decided to use that but then changed my mind. I had to have black.

I had just enough time before the trick-or-treaters started arriving to run up to WalMart and get some floss. Well! That was a wasted trip. It's about a 12-15 mile roundtrip from my house to WalMart. And they had NO embroidery floss. How can a store like WalMart not carry embroidery floss? Since there are no other stores in Leeds that could possibly carry floss, I came home empty handed. After church, I'll go to Michael's down on Hwy 280 in Birmingham. Surely they have some.

Happy Fall-Back Day to everyone. This is my very favorite day of the whole year. I get an extra hour, which I will use to search for black embroidery floss.

We had far fewer trick-or-treaters at our house, too. I love having the extra hour, too! Good luck on your hunt!

I just got that book; I'm thinking about appliquing some bunnies on Christmas gifts for grandchildren, or maybe pillowcases. Our Super Walmart has no embroidery floss either; what used to be an entire department is now two very short aisles with a few basic notions, some knitting supplies, a few scrapbooking and beading things and that's about it. And the Hancock Fabric where I used to get my floss now carries some awful off-brand. I buy mine either at AC Moore or Michael's (usually the former, since it's right beside the used book store . . . . ).

We had no trick-or-treaters, but then we never do, living out in the country.

Yes! Happy Fall-Back Day to you, too! My favorite kinda time. Somehow I feel more relaxed and cozy when natural time returns. Probably psychological.

We had no trick or treaters this year either, down from 100 or so just 4 or 5 years ago. What happened?!

The bunny quilt is beautiful. The little bunnies are so cute and the setting gives it elegance. I hope you found your black floss ok. The brown would have been nice, too.

Hope you are having a blessed Sunday!

Walmart doesn't realize the business they're losing...most times it's the only reason I go there! Decatur's still has a fabric department, but I'm sure the days for it is numbered. Now that we live waaaaay out in the boonies, we didn't have trick-or-treaters and that was a "good thing"! I didn't have to eat all that left-over candy!

I love Fall-back Day, too and am careful to be in bed so I get that extra hour of sleep. Ahhhhhh!

We had no trick-or-treaters either but also live off the beaten path and 200 ft off the road.

Love the quilt!! Might you tuck a colorful egg or two around so this is an Easter quilt?

I still have my DMC stash from cross-stitch days so have black and a bazillion other colors, plus 3 UFOs.....

Doing borders on the flannel quilt here on a very rainy day.

Hugs!

My husband and I figured we had about forty trick-or-treaters. I do believe we had more last year, but I turn off our lights at 8 p.m.

I love the bunny quilt, and I can't wait to see yours.

The neighborhood party sounds wonderful. Good neighbors are such a blessings.

Your hummingbird gift was so nice. What a wonderful thing for her to do for you.

And, I will have your friend in my prayers.

Happy Fall-back day to you too! Love that extra hour on the weekend. I didn't have any trick or treaters this year; the weather was cold and rainy. Guess I'll have to eat the candy...

Not a single, solitary trick or treater here. I was just SURE there would be lots because this area has LOADS of kiddos. Nope. Your bunny quilt is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! It makes me smile just to LOOK at it! Hope you found some black floss today. If not, I have TONS! Just say the word, & I'll send it to YOU! LOVE YOU, SUSAN! LOVE YOU, TOO, SOPHIE!

Your bunny quilt is adorable!
Trick or treaters? We live so far out into the woods we never get them. I miss seeing all the cute little kids but we were in town and saw lots of kids on the main street. They are so darn cute!
Hugs
