Perfect Use for Charm Packs

Charm packs Our internet has been acting up for the past couple of days. We signed up for a higher speed DSL than we already had and this has confused our modem or something. We're having to boost service off our neighbor's wireless until the Dish Network people can figure out what's wrong.

I've been making Disappearing Nine-Patch blocks for Aunt Pitty Pat's Swap, and I'm having a ball. They're so very quick and easy. For the swap rules, you start with two 45 5" squares charm packs (or cut 90 5" squares, but that makes it harder and more time consuming). Sew the charm squares into 9-patch blocks, cut the blocks into quarters, and voila! You have 40 blocks to swap.

This is a great way to make kid's quilts and charity quilts. So fast and fun--and it gives you a good reason to buy lots of charm packs.

Above are photos of two ways you can arrange the blocks to make a quilt. There are many, many possibilities. To see more Disappearing Nine-Patch quilts, go here.

One charm pack of 45 squares will make 20 blocks.

Love your blocks and the quilts! Will have to tuck this idea in with my charm packs, and I do have quite a few charm packs!

Sympathy about your computer woes. Me, too, but it's my email. Techie son2 has given me a new version of my email program and I've been computerless for 24 hours, but there is still something amiss. Bother!

Hope your modem gets the idea and is back to work ASAP!

Hugs!

Hi Susan ~ I love the pinks! I've never done disappearing 9-patch - it does sound easy! I still haven't done the back on the orange pile quilt yet! I keep getting involved in new things w/o completing the old!

These are fun quilts to make. Our club did them in patriotic colors and sent the quilts for Quilts of Valor project. Your blocks look so pretty. I had not thought about using the charm packs, but you are right - what a great use for them and you end up with a beautiful quilt.
