Wind Up Your Yo Yo...

YoYos ...when I say Pogo!

Ever wonder why the lyrics of most of the songs from the 50s and 60s don't make a lot of sense? Well I do. This song ("Annie Get Your Yo Yo" by Little Junior Parker) has been running through my head ever since I started making these yo yos. I never did know what the heck he was singing about, and I still don't. I mean, just listen:

"Annie get your yo yo,
Wind it up tight.
We're gonna pogo."

What does that mean? How do you pogo? I don't remember any dance called the pogo. Maybe he means they're going to jump on a pogo stick. But then why does Annie need her yo yo? You can't yo yo and pogo at the same time.

I suppose, considering the state of the economy, the war-ravaged planet, global warming, Sarah Palin's hairstyle, and other weighty matters, this is not really a pressing issue. But I just wonder.

Anyway, I made the yo yos in the photo (not while pogoing), using the Clover Extra Large Yo Yo Maker. If y'all haven't discovered these tools yet, you're missing out. They make yo-yo making quick, easy, and fun. It's lots more fun than yo-yoing while pogoing! and a lot less dangerous.

(Editor's Note: Oh my! I just proofread this post, and it just struck me what Little Junior is probably talking about. Never mind.)

Hi Susan,

Well as luck would have it....I found one at my sewing store yesterday. I love it! I have tried to make uniform yo yo's for years. I now have a new project for my lunch hour. Now I have to think do I want all different colors or do I want to make something with varieties of one color scheme...decisions decisions. For now I am making them out of my fabric stash. Thank you for sharing your fun!!
