On the Front Burner

Little Doll Materials
Here are some of the materials I plan to use in finishing up my Little Doll Book. Most of these items came from Lilia.
But I found the Sunbonnet Girl embroidered piece at the Flea Market and the paper with roses at the Thrift Store. The roll of pink ribbon was in my stash. I think the rest (as well as a bunch more) came from Lilia.

Green QuiltThis is a quilt that I gave tto Andy years ago. It was one of the featured quilts in  Quilts for All Seasons.

As you can see, Andy has used and loved this quilt quite a lot. It's now very soft and cuddly. But all that loving has caused the binding to fray badly. I think I must have used some poor-quality fabric for the binding because it really shouldn't have worn as much as it has. Just take a look.
Green Binding B To keep this quilt in use for some more years, I've agreed to put new binding on it for A. I've never rebound a quilt before, and I need some advice. Would it be better to completely remove the old binding; or can I bind over it? I'm afraid the answer is to remove the old, but I want to know for sure before I start. Does anymore have any advice for me on rebinding a quilt?

These are two of the projects, along with my Two-Color Challenge Quilt and getting the border on Falicia's Wedding Quilt, that are my front-burner projects right now. I'm not going to start a new quilting or sewing project or work on anything else until these three things are done. Honest. I mean it.

Gotta go. This is grocery shopping day, a chore that I really don't like. I wish I did, but I don't. I'd rather be quilting.

I LOVE that green quilt that you are rebinding. I have no advice on rebinding, although I'd guess that you probably should just take off the old, but I just had to comment on how gorgeous it is.

I LOVE that quilt, the colors and fabrics are just amazing! If it were me, I'd bind over the old stuff or very carefully pick the seams to remove it.

And the Little Doll Book stuff is toooo clever, love it too!

If this were an antique quilt you would put the new binding over the old because you would never remove anything that was part of the original quilt. But it's not. I think I'd still put the new binding over the old binding - after all, it might become an antique some day in the future!

Susan, what beautiful things you have to use to complete your project.

While I definitely can't give you any advice about the quilt binding, I can tell you that it is lovely.

I love that quilt--the colors and pattern are so lovely. If I were going to re-bind a quilt, I think I'd just put a new binding over the old--and use old-looking fabric. Maybe some bleached muslin or bias tape that you've had for a long time.

Thank you for the comment. I hope to get involved quite a bit, granted my crafting skills are needing some improvement. I absolutely adore the quilt you have pictured here, how wonderful!

I would just bind over the old binding I think. Love your pretties for the doll book. I am so far behind on reading blogs, I need to go look at the cards you have finished since I was last here. Love your current projects!!

I just revisited your altered playing cards. I had misses seeing some of them, and I really enjoyed catching up with them. They are just wonderful!

Your doll book is going to be so lovely! The quilt that Andy has loved so much is beautiful. I agree with Perry - I would bind over the old binding.
