Resting, Relaxing, and Reading

Umbrellas_jpgHave we ever been scarfing up those three Rs since arriving here at Panama City Beach on Friday evening. We got here just in time to watch the sun ease down into the Gulf of Mexico. After a soup-and-sandwich supper, we got right down to working on the contents of the huge book bag we brought. I've finished one book, and Vann is halfway through one. (I had a head start, since I started mine at home.)

The weather is perfect: sunny and cool with a breeze off the gulf. Yesterday, the waves were really high, but today the water is very calm. Hardly anybody on the beach, even though we're in the weekend. We have a feeling, the beach will really be deserted after today. We've decided this is the time to be at the beach. I guess if you like crowds and heat, you wouldn't like it. But for us, it's perfect.

If anybody is wondering about Miss Sophie Belle Patterpaw, we didn't bring her. There's a dog ban on PC Beach, although we've seen several since we've been here. But there's a $500 fine if you're caught, and $500 will buy a lot of gas for the 4-wheeler. So we left the mutt at home.

But don't go feeling sorry for her. She's having a ball. Andy (our daughter) is staying at our house this weekend to keep her company. Andy took Sophie for a hike in the woods yesterday. Then Bob came and gave her a ride on the 4-wheeler and took her home with him to visit with him and Mary Beth. This afternoon, Paul will take over from Andy as dog sitter. Sophie will be staying with him for the rest of the week. Paul is crazy about that dog, and she about him. So you see, the black dog is feeling no pain.

The internet connection down here is slow, and my hands aren't accustomed to working on Vann's laptop. So if I'm not answering your commments or leaving comments on your blogs as much or as fast as usual, don't worry. I'll be back to full blogging speed once I get home.

We have a trip to Quilting By the Bay planned for later this week. Can't wait to see what new goodies they have since our last visit. I'll file a full report.

Gotta go now. Got books to read, naps to take, beach to walk, and shrimp to eat. Hope all is well with everyone.

V-a-c-a-tion in the summer sun! Not my idea of a break but I'm glad you're enjoying yourself and relaxing. Sounds like you've been busy lately. A cabin in the woods - now that's my idea of heaven. Back to work after a week away is a bummer though.

Susan,

enjoy yourself and have fun!!!!
This seems a great beach, quiet for you to relax and enjoy your reading.
I remembered you a lot these past days. Rememeber that when I saw your pictures I used to say that I wish I have a quilting group as you did? Well, here in Qatar there's a quilting guild!!!! I'm so excited, can't wait to attend the next meeting. The ladies are great artists and I'm really looking forward to go. ;-))
