Wasn't it just a couple of years ago that this little munchkin used to visit me with his dad and play in my backyard and call me "SuSu?" How long ago could it have been when I was driving us to "The Creek" with him and his sister in the back seat and him singing "I'm a Love Man?" Didn't I just a few nights ago attend soccer games and Boy Scout functions and baseball games to see him? Last Thursday, I believe it was, he and his dad were in the backyard building a rabbit trap that we dubbed "Hotel California" (they can check in any time they like, but they can never leave.).
All those sunrises and sunsets went by far too fast, and that little boy is all grown up now--our Phillip. And on February 7, he and beautiful Carrie joined their lives together as one.
It was a small wedding with just a few friends, and Carrie's parents--and the dogs. (Ripple was the ring bearer; they wouldn't give Wieli a role in the wedding because they said he wouldn't cooperate). We weren't able to be there (Laramie, Wyoming where they're attending school). But in August, they're coming here. And there will be a gala reception at the Rowan House just down the road from us. That's when I'll be able to put on a matronly stepmother-of-the-groom dress and grin like a possum with pride for being able to call this wonderful young man my stepson. Thanks, Vann, for giving him life. He's a joy.
