This is a brand new pair of pillowcases (you put your head on them) handmade by me. This is the prize for whoever was the winner of my Name-the-Altered Card Giveaway, which I announced last week.
I used the Random Number Generator to choose the winner, and that winner happens to be Phyllis King of Carolina Arts. Her suggestion for a title for the card was "Floral Fantasy," so that's the official name of Altered Playing Card #8/52. Great job, Phyllis. Congratulations.
Thanks to all of you who entered this giveaway by leaving suggestions. They were all excellent titles, so I wasn't a bit worried when I was choosing the winner. It didn't matter who won, I was sure I'd have a good title for my card..
This has been a weird week around here. You already know about our strange weather. (The sun is out today, although it's still cold.) But yesterday, the strangest thing happened (at least for us). After lunch, about 2:00 p.m., Vann retired to his recliner to read and I cleaned up the kitchen and folded a dryer load of clothes. By the time I was halfway through these chores, I felt like I couldn't stay on my feet. I was totally exhausted. I got finished and went immediately to my big chair, picked up my book, and covered up with the fleece blanket. The next thing I knew, I was waking up and so was Vann and it was dark outside. We had slept for about four hours in our chairs. We rarely even take naps; and when we do, they last for about an hour. Even Sophie got in on the snoozing. She slept right along with us on the back of the sofa.
I thought I wouldn't sleep a bit last night, but I went to sleep about 12:00 and slept until 8:00 this morning. I don't know what time Vann and Sophie came to bed. I do know that Vann had got up, walked Sophie, and made coffee before I stirred this morning.
I don't know, maybe we just needed the sleep because of the stress of the stormy night. Or maybe some low-flying tsi-tsi fly put the bite on us all. Whatever, we really stored up some Zs yesterday.
See this fabric (left)? I bought this I don't know when at I don't know what quilt shop, and I need some more to go in my Scottish Stars quilt. (I know they're Texas bluebonnets which probably don't grow in Scotland, but the color is right. If you know of some blue-and-yellow thistle fabric, I'll use that instead.) I've searched the web over and can't find any. If anybody has some, I'd be so happy to purchase it from you or swap for something I might have that you need. Just give a shout.

Bluebonnets are the state flower of Texas. I would suggest you look up quilt stores for Texas on google. Most of them will have either an email address or an 800 number. That is where I would start. I will see if I can find the "info" on some of them I know and email you.

Susan, I cannot believe I've won your beautiful pillow cases! With piping, even! You are a wonderful seamstress, dearie! Thank you so very much! And I think your extra-long naps were from stress and pain the last few days, not to mention the awful storm! Please rest one day soon.....(after you mail me the gorgeous pillow cases)! heh, heh

Pretty pretty pillow "slips" as Grandma Agnes used to call them. We call Bluebonnets "Lupine" here in California. Wonder if they are the same plant?

Congratulations Phyllis!!! Lovely name for the card!
Susan, I figured you might have been without power when you never posted(and that was my reason for not calling, I thought the phone lines might be out too). Glad it came back quickly, if you can call 24 hours quick. I agree with Phyllis about the storm stress causing you to sleep like that. When my parents came for Christmas I did the same thing, it wasn't a bad stress, it just drained me.
I've actually been craving a nap since Monday but haven't gotten it yet. Hopefully tomorrow, now that I'm through with painting the girls' bedroom.

Floral Fantasy is lovely and the pillowcases are a great definiition of the title. Sometimes I sleep away for hours as well - I think our bodies get to a certain point and just need to sleep. We can't fight it! I don't have any fabric sources but will keep my eye out.
