Rainbow Stew, Sodie Crackers, and Other Phenomena

Rainbow_stewVann is heading off to hunting camp next week for several days with his friends Al and Bill. He asked me to make him a pot of chili and a pot of what he calls "rainbow stew." This is simply a meat and vegetable stew, consisting of stew meat, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, and whatever other veggies I have on hand. I made enough that we were able to have a bowl of it last night. Rainbow stew is best served with cornbread or "sodie crackers."

I also made enough chili for us, and we'll have that tomorrow night.

MORE TREASURES ARRIVE

Look at this beautiful vintage quilt top that I received in the mail today from my sweet blogging friend Nita. Isn't that just unbelievable? I've had so much fun looking at all the wonderful fabrics. The top is very well pieced. I think this is one to hand quilt.

I believe the pattern is called "Kansas Dugout." I seem to remember Mama making one by this design years ago. I think my daughter has it now.

BUT WAIT! That's not all. Nita also included all these wonderful goodies in the box with the quilt top. Two great vintage booklets full of antique quilt patterns, button cards, a packet of needles, fat quarters, binding, and a little wooden embroidery hoop.Notions

Thanks so so much, Nita. You are so sweet and generous. I love everything so much.

Nita has also tagged me to list SEVEN MORE THINGS ABOUT ME!! Let's see if I can think of seven more. Hmmmmm. Well, now....

1. I have a collection of turkeys. Not the real ones, but ceramic, wooden, glass, etc.

2. I love to do jigsaw puzzles.

3. I pick up pennies in parking lots. In fact, I have a mason jar full of parking lot pennies.

4. When I was a child, I had a rabbit named Pierre.

5.  While in high school, I wrote a teenage gossip column for our local newspaper (The Leeds News) under the pseudonym of Lucy Leeds. When I was finally outed, all my friends got mad at me for telling their secrets. My friend, J.A., still won't let me forget it.

6. I have never ridden on a train.

7. I hate the circus.
********************************************************************************************************
It was cloudy and rainy most of today, and tonight we had storms, wind, and and tornado warnings. I think the threat of tornadoes has finally passed, but it's raining like crazy outside.  I hope the rain stops by tomorrow--because TOMORROW IS A SPECIAL DAY AT OUR HOUSE. Can you guess what it is? If not, tune in tomorrow for a peak at our celebration.

WOW I just got caught up on your blogging. You've been busy. Love your goodies you just got. What a cute card you altered. The soup looks yummy. I'm freezing tonight. Brrrr. I'm making lobster bisque for dinner.

You are getting so much done, all I see is a blur as you run circles around me. Good job on the card project and I like the start on the latest journal quilt.
Go, Susan, Go.

How could someone part with that beautiful vintage quilt?? Send your generous friends my way, huh? LOL!

I'll guess that tomorrow might be Queen Sophie's birthday celebration (according to her doggie page she was born on Jan 11!).

p.s. I like to pick up coins, too. How can anyone see money and not retrieve it? I haven't kept them in a separate jar though; that would have been neat!
